Tobi my friend has a 90 accord that has a weird problem with the ignition. It appears to be temp related. The key goes in the igniton just fine but she cannot turn her key back to the off position until after it's warned up a bit. Normally it doesn't bother her because she is normally driving for a while. But when she has to make a run to the store, sometime she cannot turn the car off and remove the key, so she has to sit in the car for about 15 minutes and it comes out just fine.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Sorry, I didnt see this yesterday. Sounds pretty weird, is it an automatic? Sometimes the ignition cylinder itself gets old and needs to be replaced.

It is an automatic. Does replacing the ignition cylinder mean she will have two sets of keys (new one for ignition and the existing one for the locks)? Or can she get the ignition cylinder rekeyed to match?

I can rekey them to match but the automatics sometimes have trouble with the P/N lockout, If she can turn the car off but cant get the key out it might need a gear position switch instead. The car thinks its still in gear and you cant take the key out unless its in park. Have her look at the dash indicator and see if the red box around the "P" is lit up or not when it is happening.

edit: have her play with the shifter back and forth from N to P a few times also to see if it helps. If so in needs a gear position switch.

I drove the car to work today and sure enough i was unable to take the key out. There was not red box around the P and the shifter is in park. So i played around with it for a bit, putting it in D4, P, R, N, etc. At first it didn't even have a box (green) when in R or N (red). After sitting in the parking lot looking dumb (good thing i get in early) the box around N appeared, then R, then P and i was able to get to work.

Tobi how much do you charge to get the gear position switch replaced? The car also needs to have the VSS replaced also. I can't tell how fast i am going.

My buddy is buying the car for $500, so i need to give him a est price for the repairs.

BTW - Did you get my friend's message (Chris) about his 1st gen integra?

He wanted to know about a water pump and timing belt change on a 1st gen integra and how much it would be.

PM sent. On that 90 accord that green S (sport) light is flashing, is that normal?

My friend might also call you to get those repairs done.
