Wow..... so it was 12:30 in the fucking morning, I was driving home from a movie with my friend and there was no one in sight. Literally I could not see another car within over a mile of me and it was a 50 zone so I sped up to around 60-65ish. Some other head lights showed up in front of me so I slowed down, then some guy appeared about 100 yards behind me. He caught up to me in like 30 seconds then tailgated me for another 45 seconds about 3 feet off my bumper and I started to speed up cause he was freaking me out and right as I was about to pull over to let him pass ...... *WEEEOOOOWWWWWWWWWW WWWEEEEOOOOOWWWWW*. The cop said I was going "about" 13 over, then I "sped up" after I passed him to "about" 15 over...... the difference between a 9mph ticket and a 10mph ticket is 3 points..... Yeah its a fucking 4 point ticket. I asked the cop how many points I have on my liscence and he said he "didn't know," and told me that there was a point reduction if I paid the fine and sent it in, when I asked what it was he "didn't know," wtf did he know...... It's ironic that the instant I'm not speeding around anyone I get a ticket. Any input on what my options are for this??

It doesn't matter how empty the road was... you'll still get charged and convicted of it. Some states have a little more common sense about the victimless "crimes", but Colorado doesn't. Take the plea bargain and you should be able to get it down to 2 points, which is no big deal.

Whenever somebody tailgates me I slam on the brakes, EVERYTIME.

Bahahahaha. You sped up because you freaked out. Maybe you shouldnt be out that late. Like Cryinman said, either slam on the brakes or get out of the way. Dont speed up.

I dont think it's a cop's job to keep tabs on how many points you have. That's the DMVs job and your own responsibility to find out.

as I was about to pull over to let him pass ...... *WEEEOOOOWWWWWWWWWW WWWEEEEOOOOOWWWWW*.
That parts funny.

i've heard several stories, when cop start to tailgate you, then you speed up to let him go, and at that moment he pulls you over. one of the funniest reasons i heard them say was:
victim: ...but you were tailgating me, i was trying to let you pass me!
cop: tailgating? i barely managed to catch up with you!

yeah, right....

In regards to not being out that late, yeah its ganna stay that way. Between work and school I never see anyone my age, so the only time I have to spend with friends is at night.

How can you lose something you don't have? :)

You don't have any points, you only lose them.
The Law of Conservation of Points teaches us, that every point you lose is gained by a police officer. Which further leads us to a conclusion, that every police officer has numerous points, gained through a point-transfer event, also known as "pull over". Given that at any consecutive 12 (twelve) months period a person can only gain 12 (twelve) points, I hereby can proclaim the absolute majority of police offices as illegible to drive any motorised vehicle whatsoever.

You don't have any points. You get points taken from you. I'll lay it out simple for you.

If you are 16:
You can lose 6 points in one year, or 9 in two years.

If you are 18-20:
You can lose 9 points in one year or 12 in two years.

If you are 21 or <:
You can lose 12 points in one year, or 18 in two years.

Thus me being 17 right now, I HAVE 6 points... c'mon Stu, you're losing respect points now. :)

So you start with none, and if you get tickets you get negative points?

There is no record of you having any points. You are just only allowed to lose so many. Think of getting a warning at work or something. You don't have any amount of warnings, but after you get so many against you, you are fired.

Stu, i'm going to start a terminological debate with you here ;)

here's what i see in a driver's handbook:
As a driver, you start out with a clean record, no points
against you. If you accumulate too many points against
your driving record within a certain period of time, you
will lose your driver license through a point suspension.
other state.
So, you don't really lose them, you accumulate them to a maximum amount within a certain period of time

I know a pretty cool cop who let me sit in the front seat and he showed me everything they can do on their computer. We even wrote a ticket together - ahh the bonding memories.

Their system is pretty cool but it doesnt give them all that much information.

They have to call a dispatcher on the radio to find information on the vehicles owner, etc...

soggy, just pay the fine and be done with it, its not a very big ticket.

I hate the point system, we need to get rid of it, so I can speed again

Actually, you can't... If you get that amount of points against you, you will lose your license. I can only afford to lose 11 points in a year, because 12 will suspend my license.

stu
10-20-2004, 05:57 PM
Actually you can. You can lose 6 points, then they take your license. You won't have a license long enough to lose 7 points in one year. Actually, you can. I wonder if excessive points can roll over. That'd be shitty.

Weston

What are you talking about? You can easily lose more points than is required to suspend your license. The more you go over, the longer you lose your license, and the less you'll have when you get it back.

stu

I don't think it works that way, well, just the second part. Once you get your licesnse back, all the rules that I stated apply just as normal.

Skaterkid
10-20-2004, 07:46 PM
Yes it does. When I had my license returned I only had 5 points until two years after my first ticket. I had 7 on the 6 point license.

you guys are nuts...

almost the exact same thing happened to me, except i didn't slow down, or speed up. I just stayed at a comfortable 15 over all the way around a corner :p

I think i can get another 4 pointer now without loosing my license... ;ScratchHe
