Random bored at work thread...
My Dad is a crazy mofo that literally gets sick of cars and trades them every 6 months or less. He is an amazing hagler and always comes out ahead finacially.
They cars he's had in the last year+ from oldest to newest:
'04 BMW 528i (or iS, I have no idea)
'04 Lexus LS430
'04 Lexus ES330
'05 Chrysler 300C
'05 Lexus ES330
He got rid of his "new" '05 300C he just got a few months ago. He loves his imports and the 300C was his 1st domestic he's had in nearly 20 years. He loved the power but hated being stared at constantly and hated the fuel economy. So he traded it for a brand new '05 Lexus ES330, and he only had to throw in $2200. Good trade or bad trade? Keep in mind the 300C had roughly 5 months of use and 11,000 miles on it.
As much as I LOVED the 300, the Lexus is WAY more plush, more user friendly, and the overall fit 'n finish is far superior.
Sorry to ramble on and on but work is killin' me today.

Nearly identical given each of their respective options, the lexus' sticker was a few hundred more then the Chrysler.

Sounds like he is VERY good.
Normally, a rule of thumb is that a new car will lose about 20% in value as soon as it drives off the lot and like another 10% after the first couple thousand miles. These numbers are if it came back to that dealership, not private party.
Unless they know that he is a repeat customer and he has become very popular with them.

Yeah the fact that he has bought 3 Lexus' from the same guy at the same dealership helps a ton I'm sure. He just hagles like a pro: walks in, states what he wants for his trade, states how much below invoice he is willing to pay, walks out and waits for their phone call when they give in to his demands.(I'm not exagerating here:))

Thats actually awesome
I am sure the salesmen love him because they dont have to waste much of their time either.
I recommend that strategy for all to use.
Especially if you suck at haggling.

How many cars have you purchased? Come prancing around here like you are some pro at buying new cars. Didn't you only buy a KIA? ;NutKick;

I just read an article that Chrysler has sold 60,000 of those 300Cs (40% of them with Hemis) in only 5 months. There is still a waiting list for some of them in some parts of the country. That could be partially why he got a good deal on the sale of it. I wouldn't count on that deal being around much longer tho. It's still a chrysler and I'd have to say he's smart for going back to Lexus... it is much better engineered all around.

Do you get a percentage of the sales or buys? Just curious, looking at some other self-employment ops myself.

It's not terribly mysterious.

60,000 and I wonder how many of those are rental cars right now(and yes I do mean with the hemi)
Not a lot I bet. Most people wouldn't pay the extra money to rent a car like that.

good point. a quick google search for 300C +rental showed a few places had them for rent. So we could say maybe 10,000 for rent right now, that's still 10,000 sold per month over 5 months. It's kind of remarkable considering the lackluster sales of Chryslers previously.

No, $10.95 is the listing fee for cars
The parts classifieds section is free
