1st Post!
arite, ive spoken with bass mechanic/preludshfan about my current system, alpine type r 12", alpine mrd m500 amp, and alpine type s 6x9s. after speaking with him ive decided to sell all this equipment and buy the dual 8" PM and an MTX Thunder405 5 channel amp from him. i was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these subs/amp setup, or at least just the subs. anyone have any good write-ups on it? really anxious to get it and i want to know what im getting myself into (no negative connotation there). would i be write in saying this is an upgrade from my current setup?
thanx everyone!

I've read good reviews on the Power Mouse in the past. I've never heard it so I cant say how it would compare to a Type R 12". I have a Type R 12" in a ported box powered by a PPI amp that's pushing close to 400W to it. Sounds very good for my taste.

I like my two Type R 12" and it's vented box, they're both being pushed by a mrv-1507 1000 watt amp. It's really loud and so forth so it's all just a matter of taste.

But the only thing is that they're 8s...kind of small if you ask me, I don't see how they produce any bass

I've seen/heard some of Kevin's work, and it's 2nd to none. He can make the box of 8s sound like a box of 12s. Don't worry about the relatively small driver size, it's all about the enclosure and providing the proper amount of clean power.

Sure, there's the physical limitation of the driver cone area, but are you really looking for sub-20 cycle rumble? Depending on what you listen to, I guess that would be a consideration.

I have a single 10" JL in a smallish sealed box (.66 ft^3) being fed by 200 watts into 1 ohm, in my trunk. I listen to mostly guitar rock, some electronica, some techno, some jazz. The single sealed 10 is very clean, loud enough for me, and never muddy.

Yeah he can make those 8's pound, I heard just 1 of them back in the day and it will get the job done.

Never heard his work so I guess he has skills lol. The 8s wouldn't be too bad then.

it's the enclosure/box that makes the bass.

I heard two 10's in his car with a tiny amp and it sounded like 2 12's. when feeling the amp it wasn't even warn. he knows his stuff.

Kevin does awesome work... back at a old meet i sat in his CL with two 10's and well... it out did a 15in type r in a hatch back RSX... it was running off of the stock head unit also... all i have to say is that he does AMAZING work. i would have one of his systems in my car if i wasnt so busy and he wasnt so far away..

oh yeah the bass coming from a jazz CD in his car made the roof flex... when it wasnt turned up and it was CLEAR.

lol do you have any idea how funny it is that you posted here? how did you find this site. this site is based in the town i live in, colorado springs. many people from this board have seen and heard my work. this is a good place to get the feedback.
i usually go by Bassmechanic online everywhere but here. i have been a member of this site longer than any other site online back when i had a prelude. thats where the name came from.
welcome!

yeah, i guess the fact that im kinda a noob on car audio makes me a little bit apprehensive about the fact that im replacing my 12" with a pair of 8"s, but all your reviews and feedback are keeping me strong. man i cant wait!

PreludeSHFan, do you have any experience with the Toby Sheriff? I've read very good reviews for it in the past and would like to try something like that out to save some weight on my car. :D

yea i am done with the power mouse boxes, however he talked me into it and i happend to have 1 dual 8 left over in my basement.
i still do custom systems when asked. i dont think ill ever give that up. i enjoy it too much to totally abandond the hobby i just dont want to make myself into a factory worker again building them on a regular basis

What is the power rating on these power mouse subs? I am not doubting anyones ability but I don't think that the T405 will run these very well. . . I would keep your sub amp, run those to the power mouse subs, then take the T405 and run that to all the mids in the car. You won't use the sub output channel on the T405 but I bet they will sound better with your other amp. Just my .02.

the 8's are rated for 400 RMS each we got 136.5 from the 8's on that 405 amp running 150 a sub.
remember you only get another 3 db wich is perceptivly louder with 2 times the power so if we got 136.5 with 300 watts 600 would yield approximatly 139.5 which is perceptivlty louder, or in other words you can just tell the difference.

the power mouse is a self contaned subwoofer system with a built in amp rack that features an Illuminated plexiglass cover with custom graphics in it that light up in any one of 8 neon colors.

it has a lot more bass and a perfectly flat responce from 17-117 hz than any conventional sealed or ported enclosure using even larger subs.

unfortunatly unless you were really nice to me and were willing to wait a while to get one im not actually building them anymore. i just dont have the time anymore.

as for custom boxes they dont take a s long to make and i still computer design each and every one i make. i can design the box and tell you in advance what the expected output would be with any number of design configurations and with different subs. this way i can design exactly the box for you and get the most from it through tuning. kinda like you guys do with engines i do with sound. i get the most bang for the buck every time.

Wow I've never seen a power mouse box before, sounds pretty cool. As for the custom box, would you be able to fit it into my trunk so that it doesnt' take up as much space. I have a custom box from cartoys (which I shouldn't have done) but the thing isn't even that big but I have a small hatch. It takes up most of the space and I wanted it built into my trunk. If you know what i mean.

I retract my statements about the 8s not being able to produce bass, heard the powermouse box in person and it definitely hits.

It hit everything under like 100 like it was nothing. Not only did it hit hard, it was clean and wasn't distorted at all. He really knows what he's doing :)

djet820

definitely better then mine by all means. In fact I'm going to have him build a new box setup for me because mines crappy (got it from car toys). It hits lower then mine and hits everything perfectly. btw I'm running MRV-1507 amp (alpine) pushing two 12" Type Rs in a vented box.

Trust me, you won't be dissappointed, the best part is that I was only listening to the radio when it was pounding :)

wow djet820, thats probably the best review i could read anywhere. and then the icing on the cake will be that i never use the radio, only my great sound iPod... should have the subs sometime next week.
