HA! I got the oil out without taking the nut off. My car probably hates me now though. I just unscrewed the oil filter and turned the car on. Makes a mess because oil sprays everywhere, but I got the shit out of the car. Filled it up with mobile one and yeah.
Bahahahaha! ROLFMAO!!! <- Purposely typo'd you dweebs.

No, they aren't... I do believe they have a higher number of idiots than average due to how the cars were marketed, but that's another story.
In any case, SRT4 or not, anyone who uses this method to change the oil is not real bright and should not be working on cars at all.

Poor car, maybe the car will get revenge on it him oil change. You know maybe just having the hydraulic jack suddenly give out when he changes the oil again?
Weston

It will... the oil starved bearings will take a shit when he's street ricing and trying to run from the cops. :)

Yes, it was a bone-headed move, but truthfully, as long as he shut it down immediately when it ran dry, he probably didn't hurt anything at all. I don't know the exact flow rate of the oil pumps, but I'd imagine it can drain the pan pretty quickly when it's going straight out the filter hole.
I think it's a crappy design, and I'd prefer to be able to fill the filter before screwing it on like I do on my LT1, but on engines like the wife's Honda, the filter sits at a downward angle and you can't prefill it. Everytime you change the oil, it runs dry for several seconds until the new filter gets refilled, and it doesn't cause any damage.

just because you dont see a light turn on on the dash that says "Engine damage" doesn't mean it didn't happen. in that idiot's case, 15 seconds at 800rpm idle is 12,000 revolutions of the engine without oil. that is so bad it makes my head hurt.

i think that would be more in the realm of 200, but ya know, even so the guy is still retarded
I've done worse. When we did the turbo install, we forgot to put oil in the car and I drove it onto and off of the trailer. I don't know if the exhaust guys drove it before I got a hold of them. Oh well.

90% of them are though. Most of them do not understand that their SRT4 is in fact, just a neon.

200 what?
200 revolutions. 15 seconds is a quarter of a minute, so it would be a quarter of 800rpms.

200 revs or 12,000 revs... engine damage either way. Even a cold start with zero oil in the filter will get oil to the bearings and shit well within that 15 seconds. I'm willing to bet that it was actually longer than 15 seconds anyway... that's a lot of oil to dump in a short amount of time, and the guy isn't smart so his concept of time could be way off.

It's funny... every time someone thinks they are getting a lot for their money for a new car, they always get screwed in the long run. You get what you pay for, just like any Kia or Hyundai owner.

As far as I am concerned, a car is an investment. Probably one of the more important decisions you will make in a lifetime. That's where Honda comes in with their amazing resale value.
LeonZ
08-23-2004, 02:03 AM
A bad investment though. You drive it off the lot and there goes a few grand.

Damn, that guy's an idiot. My way is much better, I don't have to take off the nut or the filter. I just take off the oil cap, roll my car over and dump that shit out.

When you go car shopping, if you are seriously looking at the purchase as an investment, and are worried how much the vehicles value will drop within a year or two, you are an idiot. You are not a car enthusiast. Please sell your car and buy a Prius.
Compare Kia and Neons and whatever with high dollar supercars. Many of them drop in value about the same % amounts.
Really though, who cares? If you are buying a $200k vehicle to drive for 4 months, fine, I understand you being worried about resale value. But, if you are buying ANYTHING under $30k, and are worried about resale value, you are either an idiot, or the cheapest motherfucker alive.
"Oh no in 10 years my $30k car won't be worth more than $17k, what will I ever do?" STFU.
Weston
08-23-2004, 05:23 AM
Well, if you finance a car and end up owing more than it's worth, you're not too bright either. Most people don't have $20k in their pockets, so a good portion has to be financed. It would be good to not get upside-down in the loan.

Most people don't care about being an enthusiast.
Your average buyer wants to make sure they can get at least a decent amount of money on a future trade or purchase.
Not everyone on the face of the earth gives a fuck about their car. This was shown first hand working at CAA.

Well I know that 97% of people aren't enthusiasts. But I would assume that 99.9% of the people on this forum are enthusiasts.
