Adrian and I are currently trying to remove the driver side CV axle on his 00' Cougar. The Bastard wont come off. Now i thought they just pulled right out of the transmission. The passenger side came out realy easy, and we dont see any pins or bolts in the surrounding area. Does anyone now how in the hell we get this thing out of the tranny?
Thanks, Chris

On my car, one side came right out, but I had to pry the other side out of the transmission.

i guess we do have to pry it out, but both of us tried and the damn thing wont even budge...... i hate it when cars are a bitch to work on.

What are you prying it with? You'll need a crow bar or something meant for prying. A screw driver probably wont work so well.

we finally got it out, we had to attach the transmission to a tree with dirt bike straps so it wouldnt move around then both of us had to simultaneously pry at it with crowbars and it finaly gave in. Of course when it came out both of us went flying into the grass. Humans-1 transmission-0

yeah, on fwd cars one of the CV's (typically the shorter of the two) has an internal snap-ring that is, as you have discovered, a bitch. usually after it's been taken out once it's a lot easier.
