You seem to level out from 7k - 8k RPM. Torque dies much sooner

Did you figure that out from the graph? :D

Well I had a point, but I guess I forgot to say it.
Wouldnt it be better if you just redline at 7k RPM?
You arent losing much HP, more torque, and save a bunch of wear on the engine?

Save yourself from breaking shit?

Why redline at 7k? The car's not even peaking it's HP at 7k.

If you upgrade your internals properly, you can bring it up even higher.

No, you don't want to redline at 7k, because when you shift from 7, where you fall into the next gear will be at a lower point in the power band.

Boost will begin to wane and hp numbers drop off at the end of a rev range due to the lack of time the valve is open letting less air in. This causes a severe drop in VE at high revs. That is what you are seeing on the graph. Now if he has a very high CFM turbo the lag would be substantial but the drop off on the end would be less. This is the case in some of the large turbo setups I have done recently, Big lag but a hp curve that looks as straigt as a pencil all the way to the rev limiter. For a street car I would prefer the smaller turbo that has more area under the curve.

lol. Rev that to the revlimiter.

The chart looks similar to mine.

My powerband comes on a LOT sooner though, and I'm whooping your ass in the torque department. It is a Neon 2.0 DOHC at 8 psi.

nice torque though. Big motors rule.

Chris, do you have a dyno chart so we can see?

Edit: Guess it does look the same, I didn't even notice it was urs. Duh

I know many factors come into play but who would win?

Hate to go, ahem, off topic, but how much time do you need in advance to schedual a tuning seSHeon?

chrisbarnett01
07-13-2004, 05:39 PM
haha Tobi I saw you putting down 25 cents on your reaction time at the last ET series!

BTW we should have a tuning battle. 2 identical cars, whoever makes the most power wins. :king:

As long as I don't lose by over 100 horsepower it will be fun.

That would actually be really cool. Have a tuner challenge in the area. Give all the pro tuners the same car and see who makes the most hp/tq at the end of the day.

There would have to be a way to make it fair, Temps on the same car would be rough for the tuner going last. Poor fella It woul dhave to be two similar cars or the same car on two days. Either way it woul dbe cool to do and it gives us an excuse to go drinking afterwards. (like we need one)

chrisbarnett01
07-13-2004, 08:13 PM
If we did the same car different days, the tuning would have to be reverted back to where it was originally for each person.

monicle
07-13-2004, 09:39 PM
yeah that would be pretty cool but whats in it for the tuners? their time isnt cheap.

Bragging rights for one. I guess to make it an actual competition there would have to be sponsors and prize money.

Bragging rights. More for fun. I doubt it will ever happen, but it would be fun for sure.

Really who would win would depend on who has the most experience with that type of setup. If it is a standalone setup I've never seen? I'd be hard pressed to do well. Same for Tobi, except I think he's seen every standalone on the market.

Tobi next time you dyno tune a car lemme know I'll come down and shoot the shit.

WTF? You only got 263whp out of mine on 10psi. J/K I got some b-series heading your way in couple of months or so :D

LOL. Just got back from teh dyno. You all will be glad to know (and sad to know) that I dynod my civic today and made a scorching 275hp at 8000RPM.

I also melted a fuel pump relay in the process, The heat in the shop was at about 101 like yesterday and I just made about 8 back to back runs so I know there is more in the little stock B16 that could.
