Well since I got my hatchy and after ghetto rigging what was already a half assed stereo installation, I just figured it was time for a new deck. Does any body have any good suggestions on some decks that start around the 3-4 hundred range?

I love alpine decks because I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Pioneer is up there too.

I just don't like JVC or Sony...they started to skip on the slightest scratch marks on the CDs.

out of topic here but you can up the laser voltage and get rid of the skipping. usually decks that dont read CDs anymore, can easily be fixed by adjusting laser voltage. Sony is all right i have one of their older mobile ES units that costs like 300 when it first came out.

I have no problem with skipping or anything on the old Kenwood deck. The only thing that really pisses me off is the shitty installation and the mofo wont read CD-R's. Thanks for your input guys.

Why not a clarion dxz454mp or something in that range, i love mine...i had to do some cutting to get it to fit perfectly but after a little jb weld and dibond and some black spray paint it looks stock...if your willing to work for it a bit....

I always been a big pioneer fan, but my last head unit was kenwood due to the functionality of the unit. Right around the $250 price point.

Got a URL regarding this? I've always thought that skipping was due to laser alignment and/or dirty lens and/or dirty/scratched/etc CDs, combined with no read ahead buffering.

But...
