How do you expect to get blue book for a car with a bad tranny?

Look last time I checked the blue book was 8000... now it's 7700, so say $1000 to put in a tranny if a person has contacts or knows what they are doing... thats $6700. However, when I was looking to buy a honda many many people sell their car for over the blue book value, because hondas are good cars and lots of people want them. People can knock down my price... I'm checking to see what I can get. Don't get too excited...

Why wuold you pay full retail or even $1000 less and still have to do the work yourself. I ahve seen cars with less damage go for half that because of the work needed. Trust me, if you want full book, get it fixed and sell it. You will always get screwed by selling it needing work.

"something is wrong with the tranny so it probably needs to either have a new tranny or have this one rebuilt"

That doesnt tell anyone a whole lot about what's wrong with it.

Tranny problems are something you can't really hide from someone. If he didn't say anything you would get onto i25 for the test drive and be stuck in 2nd or some bullshit.

The only tranny stuff you can hide on a driveable car is a high rpm grind and you can't hide it if someone actually tests for it.

Unless that is, you buy running cars without test driving them, in that case you are dumb.

wow I know but damn I just wanted to see what peoples' reponses would be.. Obviously most people wouldn't go for the deal.. but I still say hondas are good cars so when a new tranny is in I'd sell it for $8000, although most would say thats high too someone would possibly buy it... Once again I was just seeing what people would say.... and btw Nate I would never try to mislead anyone on the quality of my car when I sell it, regardless of what might be wrong.

I wasn't saying you would, i was responding to the other post about how he thought you could have sold it without saying anything, I wasn't implying you would have, just saying it is hard to hide tranny problems in general.

I'm not sure why you think you should be able to get over blue book for a car when it has a dent in the hood and altered head and taillights (both retract from the value). Yes, it doesn't hurt to list it for higher but you won't get near blue book for something on this site, lots of us work on cars. You may get something close advertising in the paper to an old blue haired lady, in which case the modifications will hurt the value for sure.

You can list it at whatever price you want, but don't be surprised if you sell it for under blue book private party for a perfect car.

Retail value is just that, you are not retail, a dealership is. People pay a premium at a dealership because they assume the car has been well checked and will have less problems. A dealership can also setup financing and take trades easily.

I sold a super clean 2000 GS Integra, fully loaded, stock, 27k miles, and I had it forever before I sold it for like 1200 under blue book private party.

You may find someone that would buy it for 8000 when it books for less in perfect condition, we are just telling you that that someone is not here and that unless you wanna wait months and months you most likely won't get near what you are asking.
