Well as some of you know I just got done with my Mini-Me set up. I know Vtec on a D-series isn't that much of a pull. But I can't tell if I'm hitting it. The tach shoots after it hits 5000 rpm but I don't really hear anything kicking in. Is there a way to check if I'm hitting it without a dyno? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

What do you have for an intake system? One way would be to drive it w/o the intake tubing(ie: open tb) and listen for it. Should be audible then.

I have a cold air intake. I will have to try that thank you! I went straight from the Vtec solenoid to the ECU is this OK? Or am I missing something?

Get on the highway up a hill in third gear. You should pull just slow enough to notice the difference.

LOL, I tried that with my GSR a few years ago. The light came on when I stepped on my brakes.

Thanks everyone I think I have it. But I'm gonna throw it up on a dyno to make sure!

You mean V-tec kicking in isn't like hitting the nitrous? It's not like warp speed, or a turbo? That's weird.

Sure it is, that's why his is broken. I attached a dyno chart of a typical Civic engine. The green line is a pull with VTEC disabled, while the red line is with VTEC engaging at around 3250 RPM. I'm sure you can see the difference VTEC makes to the HP and torque curves. This is from a basically stock single-cam engine, hence the low numbers. If this person were to add a CAI, a humongous muffler, 18" chrome rims, a giant wing, and some cool APC stickers, we would see this engine make some real VTEC power!

I wasn't sure if I was hitting because it is such a small pull sleeperZ. That's why I asked for some advice.
