ok, long story short, i should have inspected 2nd gear in more depth while replaceing my 3-4 fork. the trnany shifted perfectly and spun nicely, so i put it back together and put it in the car. took it out for a spin, no 2nd gear. i can put it in, but it just rattles. so my guess at this point is either the gear lost it's dog teeth or the seleeve is a gonner. 1st is fine, so i'm leaning towards the dog teeth, although the teeth could be fucked up on one side of the sleeve and not the other. every other gear is fine.

so now i have 2 options, full rebuild, or find out what parts i need and replace it. so, option, 1, how much does a small-parts/rebuild kit cost? and where can i get it for dirt fucking cheap? or option 2, anyone have a 2nd driven gear and/or sleeve laying around?

you guys suck :rofl:Hey tom, that TTS place near your shop off of arapahoe seemed to have a knowledgeable staff and I'm sure they could order you the parts you need for a very reasonable price. When I was asking around about my 2nd gear synchro on my first car, I went to AAMCO first and TTS second, and TTS' estimate was very low in the parts department.

wait, you mean TTS actually found a synchro for your VR-4?!? that's quite an accomplishment since our trannies are "non-servicable" and hence parts don't exist for them. if they have parts for the getrag trannies, that's fucking sweet.

lol, yeah I was a little surprised myself. He was going to do all the work for around $600 I think parts and labor, so they're definitely reasonable.

I know that Adopt-a-part in Denver had at least one GSX in the yard with low miles.

ok, i got it under control, it's just a very minor issue with the 1-2 synchro sleeve, it'll take 30 seconds to fix.

figuring that out made my day :)
