I currently own a 2000 Honda Accrod Euro R and I'm having problems with my gear box, specifically the 5th and reverse gears. I've changed the synco hub (if that's the correct term) and I recently changed the sleeve set for the 5th and reverse gears. Now I'm having the same problems again. The car is now scratching in 5th gear (very bad) and is sticking in reverse. This just started (again) a few days ago (I haven't driven it since). What can I do? Is there a defect with the gear box for this model. I don't want to go out and buy another sleeve set (done that and it didn't appear to work). I'm now thinking about getting a totally new gear box. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Its not a common issue for that tranny. You probably have a bent shift fork but without seeing the transmission apart I could not say for sure. Try to find a used box.

If it was a bent fork wouldn't the problem have remained after I changed the sleeve set. That did not happen. After I replaced the sleeve set everything (the gears) were working fine. Now I'm having the same problems. I know it's difficult for you to give me any definite answers. What do you think though? Do you know where I can get a box?

I told you what I think, its a bent fork. New synchros may have masked the problem. When the bent fork wore them out the problem came back. I know where I can get Prelude trannies but I doubt you would want to pay the shipping.

Thanks alot HG. I figured that the sleeve wouldn't solve (mask) that problem. I'll bring that up with the mechanic. Regarding the tranny - Based on what I know and what the mechanic has said - This car uses a different tranny from the Prelude. I'll let you know regarding getting a replacement. I may have no other choice.

Deltron: the images I have are too large to send via the forum. I can email them to you if you'd like.
