Yes these tranny will fit a STD 4 speed car with no mods. I don't keep any trannies that aren't good, so these are all fully functional with no grinds. I think the lowest mileage I have is 128k.

Now that I think of it, there is a difference in 88 trannies from 89-91 trannies. what year is your car? I have both styles.

it is a 91. are the 5 speed cv axles different than the 4 speed cv alxles though?

They are different, but the difference is in the outer joints where they go to the wheels. A 5 speed will go right into your car, no problems, trust me.

i guess i could just switch out the outer joints or go to the junk yard.

You do not need to switch anything! YOur Outer hubs have a different spline than the DX, but the inners (where it actually attaches to the tranny) are the same. The only thing you need to replace is the transmission assembly. It's very simple, don't overthink this.

The transmission assembly would be everything I would sell you for $100. The transmission, T/O bearing, back up switch, and speedo gear.
