i was thinkin aboot buying an old school crx(square headlights) for cheap, wanting to use it for autoX. it doesnt run and the motors probly aboot shot by now anyways so i wanted to swap it out. whats a good engine choice for autoX? i want somthing powerful but nothing to heavy for this tiny car or ill get excessive oversteer...which i probly will anyways but im trying to keep it to a min...i cant upset the balence too much. suggestion?

You mean understeer if the motor is too heavy.

Most popular swap for crxes are b16 motors.

Too much power will hurt you in autox. I recently got my 200+ HP ass spanked by a stock 90 HP CRX with some good tires. Focus on handling and applying the power you've got to the road. I'm thinking a D16 with a JRSC in a CRX would be great for autox. That would give you lots of low end torque and you would be able to pull from about anywhere in the rev range, saving you some shifts. Get a good LSD so you can power the outside wheels and a big rear anti-sway bar to help combat the understeer.

Other goodies include:

springs/shocks
polyurethane bushings and engine mounts
Small, light wheels with good autox tires
upper/lower front/rear strut/tie bars

I think that setup will get you some good performance for autox.

any swap will put you into SM, and unless youre an experienced driver, you will lose. A lot.

If its more just for the fun of it, a b-series, zc, or d16 (1st gen integra dohc) will fit into a 1st gen crx. The b-series will require a lot more parts and wiring though (see the HASport website).

Also, if you have any model other than the Si, that thing is carb'd, and its a PITA, as far as I know, to convert to EFI. Although, the advantage to the hf/dx is that it weighs less than 1800 lbs.
