Alright I rode in another MKIII today and it does not make the same noise mine makes when I shift.... Mine makes several quite Psh's that come out of the exaust.... What is this is this a BOV of some kind or is my turbo f'd up.

Do you have an aftermarket BOV? Did you ask him what BOV he has?

when you reach full bost and you let off the gas abruptly, all of the pressure inside of your charge pipes has to go somewhere. So instead of it slamming its self back onto the turbine blades you have a BOV that opens up and lets the pressure get out of the charge pipes. It usually makes a Pshhhhht sound

thats probably what your hearing

My friend has a mkiii and thats what his bov sounds like. Kinda flutters. With his intake it sounds more consistent now.

ok cool I was wondering if the fluddering was normal... Should I buy an aftermarket BOV if I already have a OEM one?

That depends on how important the whoooosh sound is to you. That's all that it's good for.

if the noise is coming out of the exhaust that *can* be indicitive of a busted BOV that's causing compressor surge.

How can I tell if the BOV is broken?

Is it possible that the MK3 Supra did not come with a BOV?

The fluttering can be a sign of compressor surge (bad.) If it happens under partial boost when you release the throttle that is most likely what it is.

What up Cameron, cool to see you on the site.

it happens under partial and high boost.
Anyone in or near longmont that could tell me right away if I am experiancing compressor surge I dont wanna fuck up the turbo.

O btw no fluddering or anythin when in neutral..

Cmon guys gimme an answer im scared to drive my car now...

If i am getting compressor surge how bad is it for the turbo.

Try adjusting the BOV so the spring isn't as compressed. Usually that means loosening some screw. You want to make sure you don't overloosen it though or else you'll leak boost.
If that doesn't fix it try to build enough boost to allow the BOV to open before shifting or just try not to build boost so you don't get surge.
It shouldn't be toooooo bad so long as you're not throwing like 15 lbs of boost back into the turbo..... This seems to be more common on cars running less boost (than the wrx) becuase its harder for the lessened amount of boost to open the valve. Hope this makes some kind of sense.

Hey Leo.... Yeah, I thought I'd check this site out so I can come to more meets and stuff......

My car has a air bypass valve as I read the vaccum diagram is this a diffrent kind of BOV or is there some other kind of valve...

If there is another type of valve I will read the vaccum diagram to see if it has it.

the air bypass is the BOV. stock BOV's won't have any adjustment. it could be as simple as the BOV is leaking, or i could be the opposite and causing surge.

surge isn't the worst thing for it, many turbocharged cars came from the factory sans BOV. the turbos don't live as long, but whatever.

i vote for just getting an aftermarket BOV and not worrying about it. for the time being just don't snap the throttle shut, ease off the gas whenever possible.

your supra definately has a bov. Look at your intake to the turbo. You'll see a hose running from that to a valve and then the hose will run to your crossover pipe on the intake manifold. your crossover pipe says "3000" on it. that valve is your bov. If you have anymore questions e-mail me at thinair240@aol.com. My friend owns an 88 supra turbo and I am the only one he lets work on the car.

dude, you have a freakin bov in your mkiii, just follow 1998cc's instructions, it is a recerculating one that goes back into the intake. and if you want a new one you have to go to suprasport.com. they have a boom ass pipeing for all your upper (and soon bottom) pipes with a flange open for any type of bov you want.

and also if you think your gonna run a 15.3 with only an intake on your supra you are horribly WRONG sorry to tell ya but the supra is a fat ass hoe who weighs 3500 lbs. with out you in it.

dont forget the headgasket fellow mkiii owner.

actually I also have exaust and the previous owner ran a 15.5 granny shifting... I should be able to get it down to 15.3 with good shifts.
