so this morning i was thinking of stu's post about what your dream pet would be. so i was thinking that a big cat (tiger, lion) would be sweet. so i thought, too bad there so big, i bet if they were the size of dogs that people would have them as pets. ....but wait a minute, if we have the science to make clones, why dont we have the techology to change the dna to change the size of animals? i know that might me crossing the line in humans playing god but could you imagine.......taking your dog sized elephant for a walk.....or having dolphins small enough to fit comfortably in you fish tank?

just a random thought

We don't need science. Every breed of dog out there was bred from wolves at some point throughout history.

Also, the way an elephant is built, if it was the size of a dog, it'd be like the most powerful animal in the world pound for pound.

More so than an ant?

No doubt. If an ant were the size of a dog, it couldn't even stand under its own weight, but if an elephant were the size of a dog....

They already have the breeding technology to shrink animals. There are several "mini" breeds of dogs for example.
Mini pincers, Huskies, greyhounds. the list goes on.

smaller than the mini's are the teacup ones now. teacup chihuahuas are like 1.5-2.5 lbs! they really can fit in a teacup for the first year of their life! they now have teacup malteese and teacup poodles and an assortment of other under 3lb breeds. its crazy. however to get an elephant that small i dont see happening unless people began to show a market for such a pet. it would take probably another 100 years or more to get a small elephant breed. by that time we should be able to do it with science

Our dog weighs about that much. She's just a normal yorkshire terrier.

Paul, is your dog annoying? Does it shake and act all nervous and stuff?

No not really. She's really nice. She even helps protect the house.

She will go nuts when a rabbit is in the yard... she has to run out there and scare them off. Even though they are like 2x the size of her and don't really care that she is there... but they run and hide just to humor her

I want a teacup dog. I can't get one though, because I know that if I do, Jessica will want to take it shopping. I just can't let that happen.
