Well, I am looking for someone who can paint cars... the white lude is ok, but it has a lot of tiny imperfections, plus I am considering a color change (GBP). I'd be more than willing to help prep, sand, even paint the car because it'll be my summer break. Perhaps pulling the engine to paint the engine bay as well, definitely the door jams and trunk. Anyone who knows someone willing to help me out, let me know please. Would be ready in about a month in a half or so, but want to get some sources before hand.

I know this doesn't help, but if I lived there I would definately help out, maybe I could come down and help out a few weekends or something, who knows.

That would be sweet - I don't have any painting tools, nor do I know anyone who does, so that may be my first problem. :)

Me neither... I wouldn't mind paying someone who does know how to do it, and mind helping either. I'm not looking for a steller paint job either, just looking for possible a color change to Grenada Black Pearl.

But seriously, you said you don't care about a stellar quality? Their Presidential paint job (middle option) is only $250. If it begins showing age in a couple of years, you can always get a respray, and change colors if you so desire.

Well, some rust is start to form, and I wanna get it fixed before it gets too bad.. it's very little dots (about the size of a pimple on someone's face). That, and it's full of rock chips up front. :)

ive been wanting to do my car too. maybee if a few of us are going to do it id consider buying tools to do the paint itself. i dont and probably wont have a place that i could spray though. we would have to convert someone's garage into a spray area. i know a friend who isnt real good at it but i think he could paint a car. he has done some motorcycle stuff and is awesome with spray paint lol. he also does custom gague work on his computer. its pretty sweet if anyone is interested. he scans your guage you currently have and makes like faceplate type stickers for em. but yea im interested in the paint project.

Somehow, I think there's a story involved in that...

Anyways, I went to Maaco to get a quote on changing the color of my car from white to blue. OMG No, it's not the Presidential package for $250. It's a different one for over $1K AND the paint they'd use is enamel, not glossy. I said no thanks. So, I decided to keep the car white, but will refresh it so it looks better.

I think my dad bought one of those little kits from auto zone for removing dings and dents. I'm going to give it a try this weekend.

i think you will save a lot! of $$ if you prep and sand it yourself and have a paint shop paint it. Most of the cost of a new paint is for preping, masking, etc. Do all that yourself and have a body shop do the paint. That will prob save you the most $$$. I have a neighbor that painted a car in his garage and it came out pretty good.

That's cool. I may just do that. I am curious however... how long would it take to sand and primer a whole car, and then how long to actually paint it? I also got two small rust spots that need to be taken care of, but I guess it's easy enough for even me to do it. I am going to have as many dents pulled as possible with PDR for free by a coworker before I'd start this.

It sounds as if a few of us want to respray our cars. Does anyone know of someone who could provide a buffer, and the proper equipment for prepping for paint? Also, how the hell do we get our hands on factory-colored paint?

ok i talked to one of my friends and he agreed to donate his garage to do some painting sometime this summer. its a one car but 2 deep. that would make it easy to put up plastic and clean it well to elim dust. i will probably be looking into some equipment for it and do a test run on a fender or something. i havent found out about paint or anything yet so once i get more info ill let you all know

oh yea rapier how did that dent puller work?

The dent puller worked okay. It's not factory smooth, but it pulled out the dents. My car is 10 years old, so I am okay with it not looking perfect.
It's pretty simple device using hot glue and then after it glues, you untwist it, pulling the dent out.
