My god, I just got done driving around in Greeley, a place with really crappy roads, and I realized that if I have to listen to my roof squeek anymore I'm going to be driven to insanity. Does ANYONE know what I can do to fix my freakin roof? It sounds like the whole car is going to fall apart anytime I go over a bump in the road.

No no, I don't have a sun roof. It has a Targa Top. The kind of roof that comes off, but it's not quite a convertible. Look at one on cardomain.com sometime. 'burnout:

Hmm, try replacing the weather stripping first.

Maybe some silicone spray lube on the rubber contact areas?

There is an anti rattle upgrade kit available from Honda. I have installed hundreds of them in the past and they work great. It forces the roof to latch tighter and not be so noisy. I can price the kit out for youif you are serious about fixing it. But Ihave to warn you, for the same price you can buy a louder stereo.

Sometimes hitting something with a hammer can work wonders :)

i think you're screwed. Sometimes when I'm really pissed off the rattling drives me fucking nuts. I'm so glad I have subs so I can turn my music on really loud, but most of the time thats what makes my car rattle more.

So you have one of two options:

1. Ear plugs
2. Loud music

third option... weld the bitch shut...

The del sol is a great car..
But you have to live with the #^%$*@ noisy roof.
seems like thats the only drawback though..

Yes.

Honda released fixes for both of them however...my roof doesnt squeak enuf to bother me..but it does leak a little bit.

However, my fix for the squeaky roof is the cheapest and easiest of all...TAKE IT OFF! :)

I'm afraid I might have to go with this idea all summer. Hopefully sometime before next fall I can find one of these De-Squeeking kits for cheap. Hey Ghandi, how much?

last time I priced the kit it was around $400. I charge $300 for the install.

i replaced the black weather strip first..then theres this one site where it shows you how to tighten the roof using flat washers. let me see if i can find it again.

God christ, I think I'll spend that money on more turbo parts and just use the TeamDelSol how-to. But thanks anyway.

You win, well what do I have here, let's see... an empty box of Easy Mac and 2 AA batteries. I'll overnight them to you.

Where did you purchase the weather strip for the roof, from a Honda dealer or what? How much did it cost?

Go to the honda dealership and buy some high temp UREA grease and take the roof off and coat all the rubber sealing around the roof. It costs like $14 for the grease but it keeps the rubber nice and conditioned so it doesnt crack and leak and it will stop the squeeking for at least 6 months. Worked wonders for me!
