Alright so I got a 89 supra that I traded for my civic in case you guys dont know and guess what, the first day I drove it the master cylender on the clutch is leaking and the air filter fell off... I have no idea how much the fix is going to cost. The car is defenently a step up from my civic going around a corner the turbo kicked in and I did my first ever powerslide and man was that some fun shit ;-). I'm loving the supra but am not enjoying the price I am paying for it. I want to go through the car mechannicly but im not quite the master mechanic and this cars motor has so much crap in it I dont have any idea what to do, I was wondering if any of you might have the time to come help me go thru this car.

Thank You,
TealCivic (well not anymore )

The master cylinder on the clutch? I think you mean the slave cylinder....anyway, just wanted to say "BWAAHAHAHAHAH!!"
j/k......If your dad has a carlot he should know quite a bit about cars, you should have him check it out.

If it's the master cylinder then it's brake fluid that's leaking.

How would this effect my clutch tho.

if it's a hydraulic clutch(not sure if it's hydraulic or cable on your car, probably hydraulic) then the master and slave cylinders are connected and share brake fluid. So if fluid is leaking from the master cylinder then there is none for the slave cylinder to use to activate the clutch. Your whole problem can probably be fixed by replacing the leaky gasket.

That's how it sounds to me, I'd have to see it in person to tell you 100% sure.

Replace the clutch master cylinder. There is no way other than a rebuild kit or a replacement that will stop the leaking from the backside of the cylinder.

Just be sure to bleed it properly and thoroughly. At that point, I would check if the slave cylinder is leaking and if it is, replace that too. Doing both at once will allow you to bleed it only once instead of twice and help ensure that the problem is fixed.

The rebuild kits available from Napa nad other places do *work*, but not nearly as long as a factory new one. If you plan to get a heavier aftermarket clutch in the future, I would get new instead of a rebuilt unit.

Brake fluid IS used in the clutch hydraulic system. So the master cylinder of both systems will leak brake fluid.

I wouldn't think that a new master would be any more than $200 new anyway. Even from Toyota's thievery called pricing.

On the air filter, put it back on. If it's a busted airbox or something, just get some sort of a free flow or open-element intake.

Consider that problem VERY small. Getting a car that's 15 years old and expecting it to be perfect is a far cry. Any car that old (my car is only a year newer) WILL have problems of some sort.

You actually think that just because someone works on a car lot that they know about cars? I've sold cars before, and car salesmen are some of the stupidest people in general, let alone about cars.

i hate to say it but what lot is this? sounds like this lot is a fucking lemonade stand if you get a car and the next day the fucking thing is breaking on you.

I've been to the dealer, they're pretty honest, depending on the salesman. When I went there at 15, the dude wouldn't let me drive the GSi off the lot because it was a hard starter and the CV's were gone, plus it looked like a flood car.

Went back there at 18 with my g/f and the lady salesman tried selling my g/f a Fiero with the Iron Duke 4cyl in it, and a ratty looking Explorer. So who knows?

Yeah, me and skaterkid were bored one day and we decided to meet eachother at dairy queen one night thats when he found out that my dad owns the dealership. Anyway yes skaterkid has been to my dads car lot before and they are honest just as long as you dont get a lady for sales, My dad is currently trying to find some salesmen that know wtf they are doing because the ones are idiots :-/. I took the supra without it getting checked out. He offerd me to get it checked but I wanted to drive the thing so damn bad to colorado springs insted of my civic I said I didnt want it to get checked out. :-/ stupid me.

hehe, well I've only delt with two car lots in my life and the salesmen were friends of mine who do know cars, so I guess my judgement is a little biased.
