I tried a little bit on my passenger side fornt fender and now it looks like I wet sanded it. Car was perfectly clean, brand new terry cloth, waxed it like I've waxed every other car I've done, and now it looks like shit. DAMNIT

You must have only spent 5 minutes. Spend another 5 and look at what you get.

so many angles I could take... but which one......
Zymol is the daihatsu of waxes..... except it costs what a bmw does...
Some zymol waxes contain WAY to much carnauba. That stuff is harder than concrete in it's natural state... doesn't exactly come off easy. Luckily it has a relativly low melting point... so a little bit of light heat would liquify it.
New terry cloth towels aren't the best either... they tend to lint a lot... which combined with a natural wax can cause a mess of small cotton particles on your paint... Microfiber is the only way to go.
Part of it is probably also that your technique is a little off. Everyone that comes to me for a detail leaves with knowing how to wax properly.

I used to use Zymol exclusively, but I now use Meguiars #7 (Show car glaze) followed up by #26 (Hi-tech yellow wax). Amazing results on both my old WRX and my EVO.
Which Zymol were you using? The cleaner/wax? That stuff worked pretty good on my '93 Talon but it had pretty bad paint with hard water spots. The abrasives in the cleaner wax did a pretty good job of cleaning up the paint and putting some luster back in, but for a newer/cleaner car I'd stay away from cleaner/wax's.

Well..I've had pretty decent luck with the stuff myself..I dont use it anymore, but its really not terrible when used properly. Can leave a pretty decent shine too.. :)

Ok I figured out what happened and why it dulled the surface. I had all my terry cloths sitting in a bag and my little asshole of a son decided to take my half gallon of Mineral Spirits and dump it into the bag without me knowing. Well it all got soaked up and I just happen to use one of them and I'm guessing that the mineral spirits completely cleaned EVERYTHING off of my right front fender.
