I am curious, some ideas for quieter exhaust. My old setup consisted of a 2.5" mandrel bent setup, 25" long resonator, and a Magnaflow 14840 muffler. Decently loud, and really deep.
I want a nice free flowing exhaust, that's deep.. but it doesn't have to be too loud. Any recommendations? I am thinking about doinga 2.25" setup, with a _________ muffler.

Install a turbo. It quiets things down nicely. :)

Yea but the way financial situations are looking, it's going to be at least a few months. Plus I think that 2.5" was an overkill for a low-boost setup.

Free flow exhaust and quiet dont belong in the same sentence. Oh wait, it worked pretty well here. I mean, they dont go hand in hand. You know what I mean. Heehee.

Can't have both. One or the other.

Cant have a quite free flowing exhaust. you got put sound resonators in. Then its not free flowing.

Ok, I'll stick with free flowing. Like I said, it's not that bad... it's just really f-in deep.

A resonator does not affect flow, at least they didn't last time I checked. They are a straight through flow design and work just like a glass pack muffler with openings that catch the sound waves.

:werd: but most aftermarket cat back exhausts have a resonator already last time I checked. I've heard of people having 2-3 resonators on the one long pipe before the axle and they do help quiet it down a lot more than just one but it still doesn't sound as quiet as stock. While the resonators don't necessarily restrict flow, they do mildy disrupt it making it less "straight through" than a pipe with no resonators but I believe the effects are negledgable (sp?), even if you did have 3 resonators on one pipe.

I had a muffler shop do me a 2.5" exhaust mandrel bent alumnized setup on my 95 hatchy..It has an 15" and a 8" resonator with a magnaflow muffler.
It's pretty quiet.Almost as quiet as stock until you get to 5-6k Rpm's.Even then It's a lot quieter than most setups I've heard..

What Magnaflow muffler? Also, yea, mine got quieter when my secondaries opened at 4,000 RPM to redline.

Not sure of the model, but it had 3" openings that had to be downsized.
The muffler barely fit in the place where the factory put it.
Let's just say I got only 1 choice of tips..I wanted it to stay as stock looking as possible.
i had 2.25" pipe, no cat, resonator and just a stock lookin muffler...u couldn't hear shit unless if i WOT the fucker. cops didn't even look at my car twice. only costed me like 250 bucks for the whole thing.

I have a apex n1 cat back and it sounds good. has a good deep sound. I have a silencer in it too which helps quiet the sound.
I have a buddy that has a 91 lude, he had his exhaust done at a local muffler shop. It was louder than a monster truck so he took it back and had a glass pack (cherry bomb) welded in between the cat and the muffler. it cleaned up the sound and took all the popping and raspyness out.
