The condo I just bought has cable only downstairs. I want to have my computer upstairs into the second bedroom. I would like to run cable upstairs, but till I can do that I was thinking I could use a wireless setup to bet my cable internet upstairs. Ideally I would like to hide the cable modem and wireless unit behind the TV and have everything else upstairs.

So... is this something I can even do? Will I be happy with the transfer rate? Not sure if it matters but my computer is a Mac.

Yes you can do that easily. The transfer rate will depend on what type of AP you go with though, for instance is it 802.11 A,B,G? If you would like a high transfer rate, I'd suggest 802.11G. 54Mbps is not bad at all, and usually more than enough for any form of Internet based activity. Just be sure to change teh default password on your AP, and you might wanna consider implementing MAC based filtering, hide the SSID, etc. Doesn't really matter if your computer is a Mac, provided your computer uses TCP/IP and NOT Appletalk. Hope that helps.
