View Full Version : 2nd Annual HAI Detail Day!!

Well folks I think the weather is finally going to be nice enough to do this. I know several people have been anxious.

HAI Detail Day is a day when us HAIers (and anyone else interested) get togeather somewhere for a detail session. This means that we not only get to detail our cars, but learn the process. Obviously there is a lot more than you can learn in a day, so we cover all the basics to get you started in proper care, then a few additional tips to give that extra shine. Everyone can go from being a total detailing newbie, to knowing how to keep their car looking better than it did when it was brand new. It's not too expensive or difficult to do, it just requires the proper knowledge.

Last time we did it at Tobi's place with help from Nick @ detailers paradise. It was tons of fun. I'd say we had a good 25-30 people show up at least. People had a chance to not only see how to do things like use a random orbital buffer and clay bar, but also had a chance to give it a try.

Last time we transformed Thrice's car into something that looked amazingly better. This time I would like to give more people the opportunity to do the same to theirs. That means we are going to need lots of space, and help from a few people who already know a little about detailing.

There are two main things we need to decide on to set it all up. One would be the date (probably a saturday, we will give people at least 3 weeks of notice so they can get off work) and a place. The place will be the tricky one and that is where I need your help. We need to find somewhere that is well shaded with runing water and electricity. A garage would be nice, but the more cars we could fit in the shade the better. Ideally I think we'd want to be able to put at least 3 cars there. If anyone has any ideas on a place that might work please let me know.

Post here if you have any questions/ideas.

Heh... for posting that less than a minute after I made the original post I would hope so...

I think you fall under the catigory of 'anxious' people :)

I really want to make it a fun event this year. It would be great to schedule it in a way that we can go to a car show (hamburger stand or something maybe) and represent HAI afterwards.

If you want a beat up car i can bring my g/f car. that thing needs the entire works done on it. Plus it's black so you can see how bad it is now... but when y ou are done, i'm sure you can use it as a mirror.

Of coarse i will want my car done also.

I think that you should have some kind of a donation bin. That $$ will go towards your supplies, and hardwork.

Let me get back in touch with a few of those NSX guys and see if they will donate their airplane hanger. They are a tough crowd to get a hold of, but i will try.

Is this enough room?

That hangar would be perfect.

I think a beater car would be fun. I could concentrate on it and do the full job. It would be a lot of advanced stuff, that some people might be interested in, but more importantly it would show people first hand, with their own eyes, what kind of transformation you can create with just a detail.

I wouldn't mind setting up something to cover costs of the products we use, and if we get some food for a bbq or something. But I don't really need anything for my time. I would much rather people take their money and go out and buy a good can of wax and some microfiber towels.

You could always use maria's camry, you saw how bad it was.

Oh, and I hope to be there too.

You can use her car for sure. I can work on my S2000, and you can jump in and help me off and on. She wouldn't mind using her car as a demo either, you can't mess it up more than it is.

I bought some cheap microfiber towels at Costco. Have you seen them before? I haven't had a chance to try them but they work good with drying dishes. :D

i have a confession to make ;) i scratched a wall in my garage yesterday.. well, the wall scratched my rear fender, to be exact. fender is bend a little, but i can deal with that.

what I'd like to know is if during detail i can polish the fender and blend in some colored wax? the paint is scratched and reveals the white primer. i don't want to do a paint job right now, cause i have lot's of dents around the car.

well, anyway, i'm in for the fun, i think i can learn something :)

Sometimes when you scratch something the paint isn't the paint below your paint, it's paint from what you hit. if that's the case it came out. This is a job a guy I know did:

Also, if anyone has heard me talk about the legendary red camaro with dozens of coats of zaino, that is the guy who did this. You can see some of the car in this shot

Date is set tentatively for June 26th. That is the only time Greg and Virginia will be in town. Will that weekend work for you Paul???

Nick with Detailers Paradise will also be there with some products. He will also be offering his help and advice on detailing.

I don't want a mob of people there... There people are nice enough to supply us with the room to detail, lets be respectful and courteous.

Bad news. I can only accept a VERY limited amount of cars on here. A request from the owners is to have no more than a dozen cars.

So far i have:

Cars:
AV630
Taikahn

Justin (M3)
Tashia

There will be a few NSX and several S2000 there already since the tradition started with those two groups.

if so i'd just like to come over and watch/hang-out. my paintjob can hardly be cured by detail anyway ;)
besides, seeing many NSX and S2000 in one place sounds like fun by itself!

I agree! Paul?

I'd be down for it. Though how about we do it sometime after May 7th. Kind of busy trying to finish up school until then. We could do it the weekend right after maybe.

We should get some of the people who are bringing their cars to the detail day thing there, that way they can learn and see the process before hand, then give it a shot on their own car in june. We could do something maybe where we just have 1-2 cars in a garage with people huddled around seeing how it all works.

Thats a good idea..you made me really want to get a buffer of my own now too. Really want to get the other side of my car painted now too..its bad news to have a car that is 2/3 really nice..and 1/3 really fucked up. :)
