I'm on spring break this week, and since i'm not going anywhere I thought it might be fun to do some detailing. Anyone interested? I don't want to do a big event (that will come in a few weeks) but i'd be down for having a few cars over.

I wouldn't mind doing some normal jobs this week, however if there is interest I would much rather get some nice cars over and make them shine for people that will really appreciate learning the process.

For a buffer you have two options, get the cheap (ie <$30) ones from checker that don't really do much and aren't worth it. Or, you can buy a Porter Cable 7424 random orbital buffer.
The 2nd option will probably run you between $150 and $200 (with pads and products), which is more than most people need to spend. It's really not necessary or worth it to get one, unless you are like me. I have used mine so many times it is probably ready for a tune up. One of the best purchases I ever made. It's a great tool that can give awesome results, even without much practice. However, it's really not needed unless you know you will be using it a lot. If you just have a car or two you want looking good, it's better to find someone with one and borrow it or have them show you how to use it.

The evo blue is pretty different from the Si blue..I think it would prolly take a different product entirely to make it really shine. The clearcoat on it should be similar to what my evo was..his was in about as bad of shape as mine was we he got it (if I remember right) it prolly needs some love....however, it could look pretty damn good with a nice product.

DrJones, does silver, as in platinum silver metallic for an STI, require special care?

shouldn't be any more than just normal paint. Silver is usually like white, where it can be hard to make a huge difference, but you can probably get a nice candied shine out of it. I'd have to see it in person and try a few things to get a really good idea though.

A bit, I am sure you have seen it at school. It is actually a little off white. To be honest, I have never seen 10 year old paint look this good, but I know it will look a lot better with a good detail.

There were a lot of swirls and light scratches from the dealer when I first got it. Plus there's a "blemish" of some sort on the hood from the plastic they stick on there.

"Nice ride" as in sports cars or something? My Jeep's not a beater or anything, the paint is actually in a good shape other than the clearcoat peeling on the top portion of the rear hatch and thats about it. It's forest green (guess thats what it's called) and has some really light scratches from car washes and stuff from the last owner. I tried Zymol and it didn't do jack shit.

This would be fun. Not only is it great to get a new car before a lot of damage has occured, but I can show you what it should of looked like when you picked it up from the dealer.
Plus i'd feel bad if I didn't show you how to properly care for your car. That's simply too nice a car to get abused, and it's young enough in it's life that it hasn't suffered much yet.
I also would mind doing Simon's, the RX-7, and the blue evo... let me figure out what i'm doing this weekend... I might be able to do one sat morning, one sat afternoon, and one sunday morning. Maybe friday afternoon too, but i'm not sure on that...

Ok how does this sound:
Friday afternoon: 4pm-8pm - B18CBungy (STI)
saturday morning: 9am-1pm - AV630 (350z)
saturday afternoon: 1pm-5pm- CT9A (EVO)
sunday morning:9am- 1pm - Simon (s2k)
I just put that togeather, no clue what works for other people. If that doesn't let me know and we can modify things.
Obviously that doesn't cover everyone who's interested, but i'm fairly sure all those cars (I hope) are in fairly good shape so won't take longer than 4 hours. You can't always assume that. Weather should be fine all those days.
Detail will cover anything that you guys want... probably at least the paint (ie removal of swirls, protecting with a good product and something to add depth to the paint) tires, windows and whatever else we have time for. If any of the cars have somewhat bad swirls, let me know, I might need a little longer to take care of them.
Price will cover products and will be $35. I can do it here in my place in Golden (area code 80401) if that works for you. Really all I need is a garage with a good ammount of space (lighting and shade is a plus), an electrical outlet and a hose. So if that doesn't work and you have such a place I can come down there.
I might also be able to squeeze in another car sunday from 1-5 and saturday from 5-9 if people are interested.
Finally, i'll be running down to Nick's (www.detailersparadise.com) to pick up some products. If anyone wants anything I can grab it for you. (like if you want to pay online i'll pick it up when I go there). Most will probably at least want a wax and a microfiber towel or two, but there could be other stuff. I can make recomendations if you want.
How does all that sound?

We'll just have to do that during HAI's detail day. I want to do it again this year but get somewhere with more space, so we can detail lots of cars at the same time, then get some photos. The weather is getting nicer so it might be good to start planing this. If anyone knows of a good location pm me with info.

That's fine. I just picked those kind of at random. We can swap you with someone if they want friday or if the other time doesn't work for them or anything.
Also since the weather is nice i'll probably be detailing from now untill winter. So there will be many other days/weekends that will work.

That would probably be ok, though usually I like to have the owner around for at least a little while. I like to go over the process and more importantly, what you need to do to keep it looking as good as it does when it leaves.

The wax is one of the best natural waxes I have used. That tin should last you well over a year if don't use it on dozens of cars like I do. It's very very easy to apply, goes on easy and comes off easy. It also gives an amazing shine. I use it all the time. I like to put a synthetic product underneeth it that lasts ~6-8 months, the natural coat on top is for extra protection and shine. Natural waxes usually should be reapplied every month or two, though that can vary some. The Microfiber's are the best way to buff something off your car (like the wax) without harming the paint. The waffle weave one is used for drying and makes life a LOT easier. That carwash shampoo above is one of my favorites, but there are lots of other good ones. Checker even carries some of them.
