Well I finally decided to get my first guitar (Acoustic), I have been wanting to learn for years so I thought now was a good time to start. I picked it up last week and am just practicing up when I have time and don't feel like being on the comp. I am having a little bit of a hard time getting my hand positions right so I don't hit other cords when I try to fret certain notes. Anyone have any tips?

My fingers are developing callouses nicely at least:)

Want my electric guitar with Hard case and distortion pedal for $150? It's a Jackson Flying V, Purple, and the only thing is both tips are chipped because some jackass dropped it in the pawn shop before I bought it. Otherwise it's great. Electrics are much easier to play on.

im just learning bass also. i was told keep right hand kinda loose and keep thumb of left hand centered between other fingers. i played for 3 hours wednesday... it was like video game thumb on most of my fingers :)

Well, acustics are BETTER to learn on, but as far as making chord forrmations, electrics usually have lower play action (the strings are closer to the fret board) and they are not as hard to push down. I'd actually recommend that you learn on an acoustic, I just want money for my stuff I don't use any more. ;)

The other reason it is better to learn on an acoustic, is that with an electric, you can use distortion to cover up your mistakes easier. So once you can play pretty clean on the acoustic, you will sound much better on the electric.

I started playing guitar 3.5 years ago and got a bass 2 years ago. now i got an acoustic guitar as well. I barely have time to practice. If I wasn't working and going to school all day, I would probably be in a band right now.

I've been playing for a few years now. Same situation as Leo. That and my bass player moved to Florida with some chick. I play a Parker Fly. Very realistic acoustic sound when desired (piezo pickup in bridge) and the best electric in the world otherwise. Anyone play jazz/blues? We should jam.

stu you got a picture of the setup? I've been playing for about 6 months now, and I think that for a self learner I've gotten okay. Acoustics, I think are a lot better to learn on. For instance, you play and play a MudVayne song on an acoustic, it sounds pretty decent, you take it to the electric with the distortion up and it sounds amazing. Just keep an open mind about what you like to play and you learn really fast. I've learned everything from Michell Branch to Thrice to MudVayne and Deftones.

What chords are you having problems with? What kind of acoustic guitar is it? What kind of strings are on it? How high is the bridge? OKay, perhaps the height of the bridge isn't that important, but really what chords are you having problems with?

well its not all the cords, I can barre A jsut fine. But E gives me some problems on the bottom most string. the tip of my pointer finger tends to touch it and muffles it out. I have this happen occassionaly on different strings, but I jsut have a problem with that one. The guitar is a Yamaha fg-413s it has steel strings.

the finger strength comes with time. just be patient. you can go to a music store a buy this little thing that u can use to increase finger strength, its like a makeshift bridge.

I play guitar... I haven't played much lately, but I have a decent Yamaha Acoustic and a Fender Stratocaster electric... both decent guitars.

I've played for 11 years I have a fender strat, a gibson les paul, and a gibson epiphone acous...as far as finger strength man I could never bring myself to use that little finger excercise (torture) device it's to boring. I would rather learn to do it on the acoustic, and it also makes it that much easier to play on an electric

I'll sell just the pedal, it's old, but in perfect condition. It isn't just a pedal though, it has four pedals and is pretty much fully tunable.

If that guitar is in decent condition I might take it off your hands stu.

That is basically what I was thinking would happen. I think I will just let the strength come in time.

Yes, the guitar is in good condition, EXCEPT that both of the ends on the V are chipped. I was looking to get $150 for both the guitar (comes with hard case, straps, picks, cables, music stand if you want, whatever else I can find) and the Distortion pedal. I would of course let who ever check them out all they wanted.
