Are there any special rules or anything like that to sell my Prelude to someone in the U.K.? They said they will mail a check for $7,500, for which I pull the amount of the car out ($3k) and send the rest to his shipping agent in U.K. He will have a carrier come and pick up the car to get it shipped to him. Everything work there?

Wait til the check clears BEFORE you do anything.

lol
Scam and $7500 for your Prelude as I assume pictured in your sign, get real.
Not dogging you on your car, but when I was selling a 2001 GSR I got the same response from some idiot in West Africa offering $50,000.
The scam works by you giving away your car to the person who will "ship" it, a.k.a. keep it then you get a fake check.
To get these guys to shut up just tell them that before you give away the car you will wait for the check to clear then deduct the amount out in cold hard cash.

Nah, he didn't wanna give me $7500 for the car, he wanted to give me $3k. So yall think it's a scam then? Got my hopes all up that'd I'd get to sell my baby. :(
"Good to hear from you and thanks for the mail,a cheque of $7,500 will be send to you and you are deduct the amount of your CAR which is $3,000 after which you will send the difference via westernunion money transfer to my shipping agent in U.K to settle to book us for their cargo, which they will be coming over to your place to pick the CAR up and get it transported to U.K,and also to bring to your attention,It only takes (24HRS) for a cheque to get cashed in the U.S,so i will like you to get the cheque cashed the same day it's presented on the counter and i will also like to know if i can count on you to send the difference of the money to my P.A. as soon as the cheque get to you .To make things fast and convenient for the both of us,Thanks and hope to hear from you soon and also send to me your contact fullname, address and phone that will used in addressing the cheque for the payment to you.
Regard's,
fisher..."

I dunno. I wouldn't let anyone take the car til the check COMPLETELY clears. It'll take more than 24hrs for a check to clear unless he has the same bank which is doubtful.

That's what I was thinking.. I mean I'll definitely wait and let the check clear before my Prelude goes anywhere.
But has anyone on Autotrader selling a car had a similar thing then?
I got the same for my talon. i got an email saying that he wanted to buy it for his "client." i told him 10,000 for the car when it clearly said 2500 in the add and he sent me an email back saying that he would send me a check for 14000. 10000 for the car 3000 for the shipping and 1000 for my inconvewnience. needeless to say i never sent another response. i get about 3 emails like this a day since putting my car on autotrader. my dad got the same when he sold harley on some other site. except his from some "guy" in suadi arabia or some shit. I sounds like a scam and don't bother with it.

Yep, figures. Was skeptical from the beginning, but glad I asked on here. :)

I remember reading about a scam that took this method. There was something that they'd try and get you to send more money their way for something.... I don't see why someone would want to spend that much on the car... I'd say just stop contacting him.. the risk isn't worth it.

Ryan - yes, I work Friday night too so I'll have some cash. What time Saturday morning were you thinking?
Paul - I agree with ya man - it's a good idea, but anyone with common sense will think twice about it (much like I did and asked here).

How far is that from Wadsworth and C-470? It's my birthday on Saturday, and I am going out to lunch with the family around noon-ish so I should have enough time if it's not more than 10-15 min away from C-470 and Wadsworth.

do not send the money. he'll send you a cashiers check for over the amount in which you want to sell your car. since the banks have to honor all checks, they will give you money for the cashiers check. then your suppose to moneygram or western union that money back to the buyer. 7-10 days later, the bank will contact you and let you know that the check has no value to it. you'll be out the whole 7500, and moneygram or western union will just tell you it's gone, and to contact your local law enforcement agency.

Ryan - ok, sweet.
Steve - thanks dude... I did some research and found some similar acts. I would have waited at least a week to see what would happen, just because it seemed so fishy to start with. *sigh*

You should contact whoever is incharge of the place where he saw your car for sale (ie website or paper) and let them know. They probably have a protocol for handling stuff like that, which hopefully includes reporting it to authorities so his gay ass can be caught and thrown in jail.

not likely. there's so many situations like that, and since they are in another country, not much can be done. not that i'm telling him to do nothing. basically contact the site and have them try to trace the ip addy of the guy. keep talking to him and pretend that everything is going okay. have him send you that cashiers check and take it to the local law enforcement agency. maybe they can pick up a pattern or find finger prints or something. try to gather as much info from the guy as possible, these guys aren't that smart.
