Well probably not the exact "stockers" but pretty damn close. Either way I like em.

Finally! Everyday I kept asking myself, "When is Pontiac going to jump in on the drifting scene?" Now I can rest my worrisome mind.

my teacher has the new GTO, they look like a grand am and a sunfire were in a horrible accedent together and this came out, but it does have a nice engine and handles very good for any car (much less a domestic ;) )

At least its RWD, that makes the car at least have some redeeming value. Cool.

Doesn't it use the same block and heads of a corvette motor?

LeonZ

yep. I think there are better choices in the 32K price range but it is definately a cool car. the interior is amazing.

For $32k, I'd buy something a lot better than a Ponticrap.

Shit that car would smoke 90% of the cars in it's class I bet. It DOES have the all mighty LS1 mated to a 6 speed tranny. You could run low 11's with simple bolt-ons and a set of cheap slicks.

You may think its the best car in its class, but I want something a little more focused on the driving experience for that kind of cash. Like an Evo.

I want to see someone take an old muscle car to a drift event. Like a GTO Judge or a hemi Cuda... now that would be fun to watch.

yup it has the ls1.Anyways I just read an article on www.ign.com in the cars section.
Apparently rhys millen received a horrible welcome at the d1 grand prix where he brought the gto.The crowd was booing so badly that the japanesse judges had to ask the crowd to cut it out.
Thats pretty fucked up I think.
But Rhys Millen seems to want to change the sport altoghether.Saying that he wants drifting to become americanized.Im not sure I agree with the guy on this subject.I mean he wants to have drifting events with trucks. What the hell is he thinking there? Drifting is a japanese sport and it should stay where its at.Its been like that for years. Why change it? I also think that after a while drifting is going to lose its appeal.Mainly because all the big companies will get involved because theres money to be made.Sucking the life out of the sport.
I think thats why so many of us like street racing. No rules,no judges, and the thrill.Mind you drifting on the streets may be a lot more dangerous than going in a straight line.

If you want things to remain unchanged, why are you driving an RX-7? Don't you wish it just stayed in Japan?

I didnt mean that drifting should have stayed in japan.I meant that the sport should remain unchanged.

I for one could do without drifting. It's the road course equivilent of a burn out competition... Sure, it looks a lot more interesting, and there are generally good drivers in the cars, but there are way too many ignorant people who like it. I'm getting really sick of these ricers running their mouths and saying they're fast because they can "drift". Even if they were good at it, which they aren't, the fast way around the track is not sideways. It's not a sport; it's more of an art form than anything else.

Werd. I've seen it compared to Ice Skating on the Speed network... and Ballet. I can't be accociated with gay shit like that! ;)

But I can still appreciate some of the serious drifting guys out there... and sliding sideways does have a certain appeal to it. I just don't understand how you pick out the winner.

drifting is almost like synchronized swimming.especially when they do the fantails and the face offs.Looks cool I think. But personally I would never ever attempt it in real life. After spending all my hard earned cash to fix up the car and make it run well I would hate to crash the damn thing all because I wanted to do a powerslide.

All sports evolve, for better or worse. 50 years ago Nascar was a bunch of rednecks who used to run hooch and now...okay, they're a bunch of rednecks who run around in circles. Just kidding. Why should drifting not evolve? Why shouldn't we take it and make it our own? Simply because its a Japanese sport and that's the way it is? I think drifting with trucks could make sense: light rear end + gobs of horsepower, what more could you want? Of course that's not drifting in the traditional sense, but why be traditional? Simply because something is the way it is doesn't mean it has to be that way.
I understand your concerns about companies getting involved, but you could make the argument that's already part of the sport. There's sponsorships and companies looking to make money off of the sport.

nothing that involves the subjectivness of a few judges to decide the score should be called a "sport"... It may be a competion, but not a sport...

I dont know I guess I like how drifting is right now.I dont have any objection to sports cars doing it but once you get into trucks its something slightly different.Im no die hard drift nut or anything.I think its cool but something that I would never try on the streets. For me being a creature of habit I tend to not always respond to change very well.Thats why I tend to question certain things.Like truck drifting for example.
