View Full Version : Another Mamacita's Import Meet Boulder 3/8 4:30pm
WRX Harvey
02-25-2004, 02:55 PM
Hey Folks. Here we go again. This is a fun All-Import meet I host from time to time and is usually a blast! I show import videos, give out free chips/salsa, and we check out each others rides. Let's go on a nite cruise up some canyons. These are informal meets with mellow folks. Parking is free Sundays. There is a lot across the street and that is where we try to gather the cars.
Mamacitas Mexican Cantina is at 1149 13th street in Boulder. You can mapquest it for a good map.

I have an ACT test the next day, so its probably a 50/50 thing

This meet is definitely going to be cool. For me it keeps getting better as the folks I meet become my freinds and all the new ones are people I am excited to meet and check out their rides which I've only seen pics of.
Speaking of which, I would really love to check out one of your speedier rides Ryanman. Although the Jeep probably ain't a slouch either.
Andy, don't worry, not everyone has awd so I was thinking of just a pavement cruise. If it snows we may have to call the cruise or pack the awd cars full of folks.
My neighbor is bringing the Best Motoring where a Porsche 996 battles a Modena, Corvette C5, Skyline R34. Also the new 350z one too.

It was a good meet, nice turnout everyone. Hung and I got scorned by a local redneck when we ventured back to search for a missing Justin and Chris in the canyon. Damn good time, great food, met some more people, all in all it was a kick ass weekend with fellow HAI people.

We took off to go drive Golden Gate, after we sat at the exit to the raod for ten minutes I took off to go start the drive, went up the hill for two miles or so. I turned around to come back and join the crew to find the cops hassling everyone. SO, I turned back around and headed back up the hill and got all the way up without seeing anyone. Met back up with Justin and Hung and turned back downhill to find the rest of the guys coming up. The flyby of the fire station got too much attention so they called the cops on us that met us promptly at the top of the hill. I snuck out of that deal and came back down the hill (alone again)
Had some great turns though. It was pretty rocky and there was one spot on the way back that was pure ice, got lucky and just wasnt on it too hard. It could have been Very bad but it wasnt.
Glad I left the rice/fest to come up with you guys.

The cops were cool. We stuck around at the bottom of the hill for a while, then a cop came and said that they got a call that we were preparing to race. We then had a talk with the cops about Fast & Furious. Another cop rolled up, but they both left shortly after. We went hauling ass up the mountain, then eventually ran into Hung as he was coming back down, so we stopped and talked. Apparently the cops were looking for us at that point, and as we were talking, my Valentine One starts picking up a strong signal from ahead. We all jumped in our cars, and like a second later, a cop comes around the corner as we were pulling out.
We got to the top of the hill and pulled over, and in within a minute there were two police vehicles with us, and a third showed up later. They were cool and said that they heard we were driving rather fast up the mountain, so if they see any of us doing anything, they would write all of us tickets for speed contest. At that point we decided to take it easy, and I led the pack to Nederland at the incredibly slow pace of the speed limit. Apparently a car or two got pulled over right away, but I don't know why. And shortly after that, there was a speed trap as we came over a hill. There were two or three cops patrolling as we came into Nederland, but they didn't talk to us. We stopped at a gas station for a bit and then took it easy on the drive back to Boulder.
It was a really good meet and cruise. Big thanks to Harvey.

Justin and I chased you and Hung for while to try to ask where you were going, we flashed our brights and even pulled next to hung waving our hands, but you guys didnt catch the drift, so we just turned around. On the way down we saw a cop driving up, wonder if that was the one you were talking about. There was also a cop at the bottom of the hill just sitting there waiting, we tried calling Hung to warn him but the phone kept cutting out. Oh well, we still had a good time.......god i want a Z. Someday, oh yes you will be mine.

I hadn't checked out your S2K before Ghandi, very cool ride. And Forum has got the bling bling James bond kickin'. I will add more pics to that thread in a day or so.

Yeah that was a ton of fun! I tried for a little bit to see if I could get you guys to pull over to see where exactly you guys were going. Didn't know if that road went to Nederland or not, anyhow, we just spun around and took it easy back down the hill, but definately saw the cops. I didn't know when the run was gonna start cause every1 was sitting around for a while, so we just took off w/ Hung following. Good times! :D

It was alot of fun. Thanks for organizing the meet and cruise, Harvey.
I finally got a chance to safely, I stress the word "safely", test out the capabilities of the STI on tight twisty roads. Yes, it was hella fun! Alex will agree with me, I was a bit intimidated by how the STI reacted to hard cornering being awd and boosted and also torque steer. I was able to adapt to it fairly quick.
We had a scary moment at the top of it as I missed the stop sign and saw this car coming up the road. I ended up slamming on my brakes as hard as I could and, of course, the gravel all over the road didnt help. I did manage to miss going into the other car's lane as he drove by me....phewwwwww.

I was getting ready to go, but two things happened.

if theres anything ive learned in life its that you can always count on women to make you late everywhere. In fact, i think thats the only thing in life that im sure of.
Now i know women are going to get upset by this, but its true and you know it. Theres always something they forgot, or their hair, makeup, cant find purse, keys, camera, the list goes on.

I told Alex, my co-pilot, that I saw the stop sign for a split second and for some reason it didnt register in time.
Overall, it was a good time. We took it easy on the way down the mtn. There were alot of slower cars in front of us so they kept us in check.

What was he driving? Chevy/GM midsize pickup? If so he gave me an earful as well.
I was under my hood chasing a boost leak and missed the departure. Met up w/everyone in Ned though.
Figures that my car lets me down the day of the meet. Still no word on what doesn't hold pressure.

Well we backtracked because we thought something happened to Justin and Chris. We thought we saw his car at the fire station or whatever that building with the people standing around with their noses up our ass so we stopped and asked if they saw a nissan Z pass by. (like joe 6 tooth knows what the hell that is) and he goes "NO, I WOULDN'T ADVISE RACING THE CANYON FELLAS, TROOPERS ARE NOW LOOKING FOR YOU" So hung dropped the clutch on the way back, then revved on them on the way out. But on the plus side I've been working on my british accent so I can accuratley give directions in a split second so me and Hung will be unstoppable! Sweeping right, medium left, stop sign, stop sign, redneck, stop sign! J/K Hung, YOU MY BOY!
