hello, my girlfriend and i just got jobs in the dillon/breck area and will be joining your community. she has a 03 wrx and i have a 93 240sx coupe
(front end conv. sr20det, hks 2540r, etc). can anyone give me an idea what the scene is like here? how are the shops in denver? i saw the links page, and it seems that there are quite a few. are there any that specialize in swaps or imports, or are they all just "speed shops"? what about tracks? i don't mind 1/4 mile every once in a while, but i REALLY like turning... we're originally from FL and we can't wait to drive on fun roads. do any of you meet up for mountain drives or anything like that? do most of you guys have 2nd cars for the winter? what scca events are any of you registered in? should i seriously consider getting winter tires for my 240? (or some beater for snowy days) i'm pretty confident in the slippery stuff, but i'm new, so let me know. so i can't think of anything else, but if you think of something good to tell me, i would appreciate it.... thanks, and see ya soon, matt & bex

Buy a beater. Keep your 240 nice. Welcome. The roads where you live will be better than any track around here for fun but if you want to run wide open in a safer environment then Second Creek raceway is where to go. Also check out www.rmsolo.org.

Welcome. I do Honda/Acura performance but if there is anything you need I can help.

Welcome... You will have fun in your WRX in the snow, especially in Breckenridge.

In some places you could probably get away with driving your Nissan around all year, but not where you are moving too.

thanks guys, my girl is already working at breck, and i'm stuck here in FL doing all the house cleaning. (jeez what a joke) anyway, are there reasonable deals in CO on beaters, i know that here in FL, you could find a car or two for a few hundred, it may only last 1 winter, but it would make it.... i'm definitely driving my 240 out there, so i kind of need a car to buy when i get there... you guys got any good ideas? also, her wrx seemed much much slower in the thin air. anyone else move from sea level? shit, i'm probably 1ft under..... anyway, at least i can turn the boost up on MY car..... peace and thanks for the posts

When I had an N/A Maxima the difference between sea level and here was huge.

It should be less with Turboed cars, but I have yet to take the RX-7 to sea level to really fell the difference.

hi there! nice car, a friend of mine is about to do the same thing to his 240, it's a coupe as well. he does fine in the winter without snow tires, it really depends on driving ability. just gotta take it slow, especially around corners ;)

as far as scca, once i get my car built i'll be running ITE class. since my car isn't allowed in any other class *evil laughter*. i'm going to be focusing on road courses as well, although drag will be an occasional event for the sake of tuning... and bragging rights ;)

thanks guys, i think i may run ITE class too, until my girl sells (donates) her wrx to me ;) do you guys know anything about the amatuer class at pikes peak.... damn i'm glad to come to CO!

you mean the hill climb? i believe all you need is all the required safety equipment, a racing license (scca?), and a huge pair of balls. some of those corners drop off into some pretty nasty looking cliffs. i was at the climb last year, great fun. my next project is a rally car, it's something i'd really like to try my hand at.

i think if you were pretty comfy on other mountain passes, pikes peak may not require such huge balls. it would be really really fun though....

you would have to drive up it first at "normal" speeds to get an idea of what pike's peak is. you mess up on a corner, and they'll be cleaning you off the rocks 1000ft below with a hose. it's one thing to be "comfy" on a mountain pass, tearing ass up pike's peak is a whole other ball game ;)

Welcome. I myself drive a 240sx. It is pretty fun to drive in the mountains once it gets warmer.

there has to be somekind of support out here! i saw like 10-15 shops just on the links from hai.... are alot of them f.o.s. or what? i'm looking for a business to open, but i may not want to compete with all those shops. do any shops specialize in swaps? do any of you think that a "chassis tuning" facility would get any business out there... just a place where you can come and drive fast, but not a 'racetrack', but one at a time, all day, 5 days a week... somewhere outside of denver.... like a big parking lot, with a bunch of turns inside of it, so you can pick your own course..... just some ideas... i don't want to work for the man anymore...

Welcome to HAI, and Colorado. I work at the colorado auto auction and can get you in touch with a dealer who in turn can bid on a cheap car for you. We all need winter beaters out here, it's the only way to keep our front ends nice and shiny.

blubyu, that would be great! i'll track you down when i get there.... i decided to stick around FL until the 21st, there's FL's first drift competition in tampa, and i figure i might as well see what it's all about.... i'm also keeping an eye on the section with meetings, etc... i'm going to try and meet everyone a.s.a.p. and it's funny, i'm listening to thrice right now :) which song is that line in? can i ask what the EBP dot is? peace, matt

LoudBay, a winter beater would also be nice just so the Colorado winter roads don't ruin your wheels with "gentle massage action"

i guess i'm going to have to get used to seeing my 240 sit for a while..... i really like driving it.... i'm still tossing around the idea of getting a 2nd pair or rims and getting snow tires..... this would probably cost more than a beater though :)

get some tire chains. they run about $70, and work miracles. my old car was no good in the snow (acura legend, frame 2" off the pavement, FWD, no snow tires), got some chains and never got stuck.

for my car i'm going to put snow tires on the stock rims, but it is AWD so it's kind of a different story as far as winter driving goes.

I just wanted to say I understand you situation. I moved out here to CO around two years ago from West Palm Beach. I had a crx that I put the ZC in, sold that, then on to a civic, then I finally got a Eclipse GSX. I went with AWD and I love it. Welcome and nice to have another Floridian.
