Did anyone watch the Street racing special on the discovery channel tonight? I thought it was pretty gay. For those who didn't see it, it was a guy who only races on the street and a women who only races on the track going head to head at the track. the woman had a civic (1996 -99 i think) with a sohc turbo, and the guy had a 90 tsi awd. they both got to go a tuning shop and had 36 hours to tune the car. The civic got a b16 and turbo. I think they put nitrous in it but i'm not sure. that night she went to the street races and accidently ran into the guy with the talon and with out realizing it told her everything about the car. the next day the talon was worked on at a different shop where they pretty much only installed a 125 shot of nitrous. the tsi won it the race by half a second. but it was only a 1/8 mile and the tsi broke an axle. the crew that woked on the civic tried to keep the car streetable and the crew that worked on the tsi was only concerned about the one race and didn't care if the car broke down after that.

I was pretty disappointed by the show overall?

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. It also made it look like honda people make excuses when they lose (ie if she had more wheel time she would take it easy) I applaud her fo making such a clean run with only 1 practice round.

that was gh3y, they put like $10,000 into the civic and it ran a 9.1 in the 1/8. They could of atleast done it at a 1/4...

My biggest complaint was running the 1/8 mile. I mean COME ON... that is prime AWD distance. Granted the Civic had slicks which help, but the girl was launching a car with WAY more power than she was used a total of two times vs a AWD that was launching like he normally does and then hits the nitrous after the launch...

For the money they spent I was expecting more. At least they should have run best out of 3 runs or run a full 1/4 mile.

I watched it, and thought it was pretty cheesy. They should have had more info on the cars, and the tuning aspect of the cars, dyno charts etc. And yes, the 1/8th mile was absolutely stupid, it just proves the Talon can launch better as it should.(Yes I'm Bias :)

Hey I will be the first to admit that AWD "owns you" [heh]. But I think in the name of fairness they really should have run a full 1/4 mile to give that overpowered 2WD car a good chance to catch up and probably overtake the DSM.

I mean the Honda was SO much better done (full engine swap, interior, looks, and I even saw them tuning it at the end).

The other guys just basically threw a FMIC, 125 shot and some other bolt-ons and broke an axle to win. That is where the best 2 out 3 runs would have been funny :).

They didn't do the DSM justice;the show kinda sucked.

It's not how pretty you look crossing the line... it's crossing the line first. ;)

On that not, what axle did that guy bust? I'm guessing he broke it on the line and still won? If so that's pretty impressive.

Yah I don't know which one or when during the run it broke. They just said he busted an axle.

And on the looks thing BELIEVE me that I don't really put much empahsis on that - read my 02 WRX [heh] - but I guess I was trying to point out more that they did a full engine swap, turbo, AND tuning with nitrous. Where as the DSM guy just seemed to bolt on a few things and go. Just the different amount of work/time/money that went into each car to ONLY run a SINGLE 1/8 mile race was just really dissapointing.

The fact that she is supposedly a drag strip racer and cried about losing a heads up drag race made the show super silly! She now has a totally BUILT drag car that is probably more consistent than anything, and she gets upset at losing one (heads up) race. C'mon, I think you need a better head than that to compete at bracket racing!
