I'm getting a CEL with a code #7 (TPS) . If I clear it, it comes right back. I checked the plug and cleaned the contacts, but no joy. The TPS looks like it is fastened to the throttle body with some type of screws that look like somebody at Honda didn't want people to remove it. I've seen a few for sale on ebay for pretty cheap. Is there some reason I shouldn't buy one off ebay, grind the heads off the fasteners, and bolt the ebay unit on my TB?

Try to find a cheap TB. If you cant you need to replace the TPS and set its at rest voltage to the same as your current setup. You can chisel the screws off and use regular screws on the install. If I were you I would go through the diag section of the manual before blaming the TPS. Sometimes a bad, loose or corroded connection is all that needs to be fixed.

Thanks, I cleaned and inspected the contacts on the plug and the TPS. I'm going to check all three wires for continuity back to the ECU tonight.

I took a dremel to the screws on the tps and made a slot in the heads so they could be unscrewed with a flat head... this worked well

I usualy take a small chisel to them to loosen them. Take them out and toss them. Then I put in phillips screws so it is easy to loosn and tighten them. Just in case the adjustment take a try or two.

I got it. The inside of the pins in the plug were damaged. Each pin is supposed to have a tab inside it that contacts the pins in the sensor. All three tabs were missing. I didn't notice it at first because they all looked the same, but when I looked at the MAP sensor plug I could see the difference. I grabbed three pins out of the criuse control connector and put them in theTPS plug, problem solved.

Good job. Were they corroded or something> Missing pins is not much of a problem up here in the dry climate.

They were corroded. It sat unplugged outside for two months while the engine was getting built, although I don't know why that one corroded and not any others. Maybe because it normally faces up and might have gotten some moisture trapped in it when I had it off.
