I'm having a D16a1 from an 87 teg built up to put in one of my 86 crx si's. Do I need to get the teg tranny or will my EW4 engines tranny fit it?
And if I have to use the teg's tranny what do I need to do to put the teg axles in the crx spindles? Have the teg hubs machined to fit the crx spindles? or put the crx outer cv joints on the teg axle shafts?

Its bolt in, No wiring involved since your car is already an Si.
Use your stock tranny and axles. Integra ECu for a better redline and fuel curve.

Some of the vacuum lines are a little weird though.

Just a quick note;
If you choose the Integra trans you will need the axles and the hubs fron an Integra..
Otherwise like Ghandi says the civic trans and axles will work.I'd be a little worried about the civic trans holding up to the dohc engine though.
just my .02

I had one in my CRX, the Si gearing is better, and holds up pretty well. I solo raced mine and never had any problems. After about a year I switched to the teg tranny though, so I could use the axles, hubs and brakes. I did the entire reont and rear brake swap on the car. It was well worth it.

great, that's exactly what I wanted to hear...er, read.....thanx.

If I do decide to switch to the teg tranny later, will the hubs fit right into the crx spindles? Or will they need to be machined?

You will need the Teg hub, and bearing. It will fit in the CRX knuckle. Then you can use the teg rotor and caliper for the bigger brakes.

Tobi, was your's a 1g crx? I keep reading at different places that some wires have to be changed even using the crx ecu. And everything I read tells me I have to use the teg tranny. If you tell me they're wrong I'll take your word for it.
Also, what can you tell me about thevacuum lines? Or should I just get both car's manuals?

The wires at the ECU did not need to be changed. The reason I know that is because you can use either ECU in the car adn it will work. The Teg ECU is better though. Straight plug and play. The vacuum lines came with the engine, I had an entire swap so I didnt have to change anything AFA that goes. Mine was a 3G Crx. here is a link that pretty much spells out everything.

I cannot remember back that far but there was something I had to do to make the tranny work. That is why I switched later. It was a pain in the ass and had so much torque steer it wasnt worth it. SO if you can get the trans then do it. Also it is definatly worth switching over the Si harness to the new motor. Makes things go much smoother.

They are considered the same thing. 3G is 84-87 civic/CRX
