Im sure you all know that Shit Happens Often(SHO) to these cars, but i need a new motor.
I was wondering if any of you guys know where a can get i new long block installed for a decent price, and stand behind the motor/install. I have had a lot of problems with shops doing work to my car, and not doing properly/throughly. So if you guys could hook me up with info on shops in the denver metro area it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Two suggestions.

One, there is a Taurus club here in Denver. My brother has a 91 SHO, and he attends the meetings. From what I hear from him they seem knowledgeable, they would probably be the best group of people to ask regarding decent SHO mechanics.

Two, and take this seriously: Go buy some tools. Spend $200 on a decent set of tools. Then, go to the junkyard, and buy a used SHO motor. Try the pick and pull yards around Denver, they generally have a few SHO's. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $250 for the motor. Then, spend $40 and rent an engine hoist.

A search of the non pick and pull junkyards in Denver shows several SHO motors from $400 to $850.

So even if you buy a motor from one of those yards, you're still under a grand total, and you get to keep the nice tools you bought.

If you pay someone to do it? Expect to be in the $2000 and $3000 range easily.

Working on cars is easy. Nuts and bolts, and a few screws. It is that simple.

Remove motor, install motor. Maybe a weekend job for a novice.

Go to Pick and Pull in Greeley off of Highway 85 and 8th. The last time I was there their were two SHO motors, and one had low miles. Plus engines are 250 up there with a 50 dollar core charge (so give em your engine and its 200).

He can't trade in his for a core. He thought he could drive it home and a rod went through the block.

Weld that sombitch up and take it in. I bet they don't even look at it. Either way it's $50 bucks.

Hell I'd just put the motor in a big plastic bag and take it over as is.

I have never once seen a junkyard inspect an engine core. FWIW, I almost always haggle with the junkyard to waive the core charge anyways.

actually i think they wont care if it runs.they dont exactly rebuild them, they want the metal(meltdown)value.
but to be sure you might call and ask them.
