So we've been trying to set up a wireless network at our house forever. We have everything pretty much setup already.
My computer is not wireless and is directly connected to our linksys router while the laptop uses a wireless card.
We turn everything on and it tends to work fine but within 30 min, the connection is lost for both computers. So we restart the router, everythings fine...then 30 min later, same thing happens. I have everything setup for DHCP and grabbing IPs automatically. Sometimes the internet won't work at all but if I was to run straight from the modem to the NIC, everything works great without any problems.
Any suggestions on what I should do?

what NIC and AC are you using? I havea DLink Wireless Access point and router with a DLink 802.11B notebook card and i can't get the encription to work. Wihtout encription set everyting works fine. When i have it set, it sounds similar to what is happening to your setup. It drops out all of the sudden.
I just haven't had time to mess with it.

It's most likely your linksys router or your cable modem.

So how would I get rid of encryption then?
Via the administrative interface for the wireless router. But I'd not disable encryption completely, esp with the 'war drivers' out there.
I had similar issues with my d-link wireless stuff. It was suggested that I update the firmware on the router, but I opted to unplug it. I don't trust wireless enough yet to truely use it.
Whenever I tried to perform a file xfer of anything of size (say, 1 mb or greater) the connection would drop. Recycling the router always brought it back, but I wasn't happy with it. Disabling encryption helped, but why have encryption on a wireless setup and not use it?
For now I'm sticking to cat 5.

We jsut don't want to run wires everywhere like we did at our old house. But now that I think of it, I think it would be easier that way. But I'm believing its my router because it disconnects even when the laptop isn't using the wireless.
Try to get updated firmware for the router? Call tech support and bitch at them until they fix it. :)

Tech support is always open. Aren't they?
Point your browser at the website of the manufacturer of the router.
Find the support link(s).
Peruse for downloads/updates/etc. :)
