my car started for the first time the other night but idles around 300 rpm, sputtering like crazy. How much would a valve adjustment help this problem? reason on asking is tomorrow morning i was planning on doing a valve adjustment and correcting the ignition timing, but at the guide im looking at for the ignition timing it says the car must be idling at 750 rpm plus or mine 50 rpm, so my question is.... will doing a valve adjustment and playing with the idle adjustment screw be enough to raise the idle enough to do a correct ignition timing job? thanks in advance again....

The valves have to be WAY off to cause this problem. To adjust the base idle you need to unlpug the IACV and set the idle to 400 with the screw onthe TB.
That will basically set the base so the computer knows where it is. After that clear the code that was set and see if it gets any better. If not there is another problem. Maybe vacuum leak.

ok i disconnect the iacv, start the car and adjust the screw on the tb til its at 400, then turn the car off, plug the iacv back in and start her back up again? i havent even pulled any codes yet, i was planning on doing that tomorrow morning as well. i know there will be an o2 code, because i dont even have it hooked up because it has no where to go. as far as the vacuum leak, i dont think so, but i suck at teh routing so could be..... thanks....
