I've got bad wheel hop when I accelerate hard. It feels like its' going to break something. I've been looking at a Z10 traction bar, but it's over $300. Has anybody tried one of these? If so, how did it work? Any other ideas for making it stop?

I think ghandi's got them on his race car.... not too sure about how well they would be for the street?

Make your own.

I've seen a few different types, and some say they are for track use only while others don't say. The Z10 unit says it allows full suspension travel, so I'm thinking that means I can drive around with it on all the time. I don't think Ghandi's Civic is his daily driver, but would like to hear about what he uses to combat wheel hop. I talked to Howard at RLZ http://www.hondaraceengines.com/gallery.htm and he said he doesn't have any wheel hop problems with slicks on, only with street tires.

For a really cheap alternative that seems to work well with my civic is those motor mount inserts from Energy Suspension. I'm sure some will say they don't work and some say the vibration that you get at idle is unacceptable, but I have nothing but good things to say about them... while it does vibrate a bit more at idle, it doesn't rattle anything and isn't all that bad in my car. It's a night and day difference between wheel hop without them and lack of wheel hop with them. The traction bars may limit the wheel hop even more, but for a total of $11.00 dollars for the inserts plus some extra for installation if you don't want to do it yourself, it's worth it IMO. Also, there is a product that Ghandi or Chris at clubRSX can recommend that is like a type of shock suspension system for the engine. Not sure how well it combats wheel hop, but it seems to be priced between the traction bars and the ES motor mount inserts.

I think the Ghandi made his own.

I actually have the Energy Suspension inserts, but hadn't put them in yet. I couldn't get at the back mount when I bought them so I threw them on a shelf. I'll have to put them in now while I've got the motor out.

I wouldn't have any idea how to fabricate my own. If I could do it with off-the-shelf parts and I had some info on how to build it I'd give it a shot.

I did a search on ClubRSX for "wheel hop" and it returned with the Energy suspension bushings, althouth I did find an oldpost on HAI about four units that I think Tobi made over a year ago.

I built my own with off the shelf race parts (mostly circle track stuff) but I had to machine several of the parts and fabricate my own mounts to fit on the Si lower control arms. I still have some hop at the track but none on the street. I made them so you could drive on the street with no problems. However after a few winters around here the heim joints will need to be replaced because they will lock up with excesive dirt and shit. After the parts I would need and the labor to build them My price for these arms would be in the $300 range.

That sounds interesting. I'll see how much $ I have left next week after I pick up my engine and get it back in the car. Thanks for the info.
