This guy seriously needs to get his ass beat. He is the bigest ass hole of last year, and will definitly be the biggest ass hole of this year.

How can someone take their company and start founding numerous legal battles over acquisations that you won't provide any evidence for? He's just trying to bring down the entire open source community just to make a profit for his sorry ass.

As if all the law suits weren't enough, he's now lobying congress to make them anti-open source. It's likely nothing will come of it, but who knows, congress loves money, and SCO loves dishing it out (even though it all comes from law suits because their crappy ass software isn't worth buying). Really they are more of a terrist organization or organized crime group rather than a company. They are trying to scare companies into paying them money without providing any proof saying why they need to.

The letter they are giving to congress (can be downloaded) goes on and on with a bunch of bull crap trying to feed them false info about things they (congress) don't necessarily know enough about to make valid decisions. They are saying open source software provides a threat to the economy because people aren't buying over priced crappy software. He says americans will lose jobs, and they are losing tax revenue over it. He also says it poses a threat to national security because terrorists can use it. Thus it should be outlawed. If companys are selling over priced crappy software that isn't as good as the free version then they shouldn't be in business anyway. Selling crap is no way to get ahead.

He must be ignoring the point that two of the largest companies in the USA (IBM and Sun) are both heavily involved with open source.

Fuck him... if he was run over by a bus tomorrow I really wouldn't miss him at all. Hell I'd take the driver out to dinner.

Well said, Doc. And I couldn't agree more.

Initially I thought the linux source code lawsuit was a ploy to sue IBM and not have the issue taken into the courts. Not sure if I am buying that one anymore.

Torvalds insists he can prove the SCO claims are bunk - I for one want to see that happen, and watch SCO go down in flames. At least on the the linux issue.

Hmm. I wonder if he's being funded under the table by Bill Gates...

FWIW, Sun purchased the rights to use "Unix" (as well as the licensing) from SCO a number of years ago for "an undisclosed" amount of money. Mcnealy made mention of that fact a lot during sales calls he did with us on the big telcos in Colorado.

Actually he is. There was a thing a while back where Microsoft did give SCO a few million to help them with their lawsuits.

The problem is that their stock has gone up a shit load. They are playing things in a way such that people who know nothing about the subject matter can be tricked into thinking the wrong thing. That's why appealing to congress could suck a lot for the OS community.

It's like he's saying that his multimillion dollar company with dozens of programmers working full time can't produce better software than the OS guys who are working in their spare time for free. If you ask me that shouldn't be illegal, it just means your company sucks ass and you need to figure out what you are doing wrong. If anything OS has caused more competition for those guys which should force them to make better software.

People don't understand that the last 5-10 years have changed the way the world works. Computers are everywhere now. Binary technology is not going to go away. All kinds of dumb ass companies don't realized that the world has changed, and they can no longer do things like they used to. But, rather than adapting to the new world and comming up to speed, they create lawsuit after lawsuit trying to change the world so they can keep doing things like they did. What lazy uninovative morons. They should be spending that money on finding ways to adapt.
