car won't go above 3,000 rpm?????

it started after that last real cold front we had a couple of weeks ago,
the car will idle fine but when you give it some gas it throws the check engine light on and it won't go above 3,000 rpm, it's like hitting a rev limiter.
i have an 89' crx si w/zc nothing special. no ignition afc controller that might affect it, any ideas would be great. thanks, ;NutKick;

You checked the CEL?

Cam timing, ignition, fuel, and spark are what come to mind.

might wanna check out the code and see what it is. A buddy of mine had the same problem and it was the distributor.

I've seen motors do this when the cat plugs up.

edit: just re-read the post. Check the CEL first. I think Stu's right, it's going into limp mode.

i just got distributor in there two months ago, they,re a bitch to find, i know the timings set, but i haven't checked the codes yet

what are you talking about? What's limp mode, or are you kidding.

limp mode is when your ecu observes how your car is acting when it "suspects" something wrong and it is usually slow and drives like crap.

Not kidding, like Leonard said, it's when your car knows that something is wrong, so it runs just enough to get you home so you don't fuck it up. I've never personally experienced it, but that's what it does.

i'm gonna try my old dis. to see if it makes a difference. i also have my stock ecu still.
right now i have the ecu out of an older integ, it ran better with it. other than that
i'm gomma go nuts.

have you checked the code? what is it? the ecu is under the carpet rh side ,just move the carpet and with the key on count the flashes.

the distributor melted internally, i've never senn it that bad before. i took it over to
menders and they were stumped on how it went so bad. oh well as long as it's running
i'm happy. thanks for the info guys.

sounds like CAT is plugged up....no motor can't breath.. so when u get on the gas, its just builds up and stresses the motor.. causing it to run like it does.. if not..reset thr ECU..
