Go to the dyno. That is the only way to tune the VAFC and make real results.

i will definately go to the dyno to get it tuned...i was just wondering if there were any suggestions on what to set it at so i get to the dyno safely...i know to run it rich, but too rich also causes high combustion temps...i only have a standard a/f gauge to see what kind of ratio i am running...and don't trust that completely...time for an egt gauge...or a wide band o2 sensor, but that's a lot more money...thanx

Too rich does not cause high temps., Too lean does. Really there is nothing I can tell you to set it to that will mke it right. I would just plan on not installing setting anything until you are ready to dyno. The settings will remain stock with the VAFC installed so as long as teh car runs ok now and the install is good you wont have a problem.

i know too lean is definately certain destruction of your motor...but too rich will also cause high temps also...

How so? I got to hear this one.
And define "High" just so we are clear. You will never reach the same temps as you will running too lean. Running rich is a good way to cool an overly hot combustion chamber.

I've never seen it happen on a fuel injected car but I've seen it happen on a carbed car. Yes it's weird, no I don't know how to explain it. Wouldn't say it if I haven't seen it.
Oh no definately you won't see the same temps as running lean.

On a carbed car a rich mixture at the carb means a very wet manifold and improper atomization. This translates to very poor cylinder mixing and an incomplete burn. That is where the temps come from, too much quenched fuel wasted on the intake and cylinder walls resulting in a lean mix of burned air and a rich mix of unburned air.

Yeah what he said.

hahahahah...yea i'm not too sure of all the technical reasons why it will run hot in a rich mixture...i just know that i've read that one should also be careful not too make the mixture too rich when worried about leaning out...i think that there is also a a problem taht when running rich the extra fuel can get past the rings and get into your oil and cause other damage...i'm no genius...i'm just going by what i've heard or read about...i appreciate the info and am always happy to learn something new and get peoples opinions...i should be able to keep an eye on things til i get a dyno session set up with the a/f gauge...but like i said...i would not trust that gauge as a tuning device...peaces

You are correct about the AF meter, they are not that acurate when using a stock 02.
