Where do you guys have your Vtec set at?

I used to set it at 5200 on my hatch. I set it at 3000 on my coupe. (the blower likes it that low)

If my understanding of it is correct, you shouldn't have any problems running the big lobe from 0 rpm. The car will run like crap and won't make as much low end power though. From what I've seen around 5000 rpm usually gets the best power out of the car, but I don't know what the stock engagement is except on the F20

So far on my b16a1 I have it set at 4500, on b18c1 at 5100, and b18c5 at 5500. On the lude it was at 3500.

I seem to remember reading that at too low of engagement point you run the risk of not having sufficient oil pressure to fully engage the locking pins - does this have any validity?

Also, if you change the VTEC engagement point w/o also adjusting the fuel curve to compensate, aren't you doing more harm than good?

I've never disassembled a VTEC valvetrain, so my understanding of how it engages is rudimentary.

On the oil pressure part I think that is an urban legend. If you dont have enough oil pressure to engage VTEC thenyou dont have enough to run the engine.

Youare correct in saying that VTEC engagement points should coincide with AF. That si why I like to have someone set the VTEC where they want it and leave it there so I can tune properly.

That's kinda what I was thinking - if VTEC is an on/off solenoid engagement, the oil pressure would either lock the larger lobes into the camshaft or it wouldn't.

Thanks for your input Tobi.

I thought with the hondata and JRSC you could set it to engage at >= 1PSI of boost and/or as soon as you go WOT. yes? no?

You can set it up that way but It is more consistant for me the way I have it set. On a street car I would probably play with it more. My car spends 99% of its life above 3k, WOT and 1psi anyway.

err, I always forget yours is just a race car and not a street car
