so im trying to build myself a pc this month. does anybody know of any websites that sell parts?? any suggestions on what i should buy??
Start at www.pricewatch.com
What do you want the machine for? Gaming? Surfing? Word processing? The end use would have a lot of bearing on what parts should be in the box.

www.newegg.com has overall best prices, and ships here in 2 days. :)

Cool. Get a lot of RAM, and a nice video card. My setup is awesome for gaming, all I need is a tad newer video card for DirectX 9. Abit NF7, XP 2500+, 1 GB Crucial PC2700 DDR, GeForce3 Ti200, 80GB Barracuda 8MB Cache, and a Lite-On DVD+-RW. You could prolly build that system, everything there, for around $400 if you price things right.

thats actually the price range im looking for. when it comes to gaming, im more into ps2, but my rommate wants me to do it, so im going cheap.

Actually I'm partial to www.pricegrabber.com. It's just as fast, has more products and distributors, and pictures, de******ions, specs.

Awesome - yea, PC gaming is much better than any console. ;wor; Just remember, RAM and video card is your friend. :)

ram and video card.......... got it.
I'd go for at least an xp2800, maybe xp3200. 512 meg ram minimum, maybe 768? 1024? :)
You can get 7200 rpm 8 meg cache 80gig maxtor drives for CHEAP these days. The onboard cache can make quite a difference. Or, look into serial ATA if your budget will allow it. Onboard raid controller w/a pair of SATA drives would be nice. Or scsi. IDE is simply awful, but you already know that.
Nvidia geforce 4 at least, maybe one of the nvidia "fx" boards? 128 meg minimum, 256 would be preferable.
"Modern" games really make demands on video ram/cache/system ram. Open up the AGP aperature as wide as you can via BIOS.

I offer up a 3rd vote for newegg.com. Not only do they have great prices, reasonable and fast shipping, their RMA process KICKS ASS!

I'd recomend putting it all togeather (like in the shoping cart) then post the full list of everything here. I'm sure a lot of guys here will let you know whats good and what you might be able to do better.

Again, what kinda system are you looking for? If you need a decent gamer, then I'll tell you to make a good RAM choice, good video card choice, and decent CPU. If you need it for email/office/internet, I'll tell you to get a LOT of ram, an ok video card, and an ok processor. Tell us what exactly you'll need (mobo, CPU, etc.), what you already have, and what you wanna do with it.

That's pretty much it. Take caution and read the directions carefully for the thermal paste (which you'll want to get). If you buy an OEM processor, you'll need a heatsink and fan. If you buy mostly OEM components, don't forget some small stuff: cables. :) Oh yes, see if your case comes with a approved power supply. Any questions just ask.
