View Full Version : Blind or Deaf?

So if you could choose to lose either your hearing or your sight which would it be? Everyone I've asked so far has said they'd rather be deaf almost immediately, but I think I'm leaning more towards blindness.

I don't know exactly why, but it seems like you'd be more cut off from the world if you were deaf. For one, you lose your ability to speak clearly, and two, you can only see in front of you, but you can hear everywhere. I think what intrigues me about being blind, is the enhanced ability you'd gain as far as smelling and hearing. There are good arguments for being deaf, like being able to read this forum, but I still can't make up my mind. Please put some thought into this before answering. Which would you choose?

I think that I'd rather be deaf. It seems like there's so much more a deaf person can do that a blind person can't.

known fact that weed makes u dumb.

now i know this isn't the topic of this post, but would you care to go into a bit more depth on that? i'm not attacking you or anything, i'd just honestly like to hear/see the "facts" that shows weed makes you dumb.
i know quite a few people who smoke and they're some of the smartest people i've met. some have the "book" smarts, and some have the "street" smarts. i wouldn't call any of them dumb.

Id rather be deaf. That way I wouldnt have to listen to anyones shit. Especially you Stu. Oh also because I was blind for a few days after an eye surgery and I could hear people making fun of my bandages (fucking cocks). It is true that your other senses are heightened.

There are other ways of communicating besides speech. Writing for example. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can replace hearing with other sources of communication. Sign language is another. Plus I'd think that you'd have more trouble with hearing than seeing.

I'd have to go with deaf... not being able to see would be a million times worse. And as Seinfeld once said, you'd never know if there were bugs in your food.

I don't know anything about the scientific evidence for either side, but I do know what I've seen... I know two people who were pretty smart, then they smoked weed every day for a while, and became noticably slow in the head when they weren't high. They also seemed pretty depressed and all they wanted to do is smoke. Maybe it's not chemically addictive, but it certainly has it's power over people.

I'm not interesting in debating; that's just what I've seen for myself, and that's why I stay away from that shit.

I would rather be deaf. knock on wood neither ever occurs, but u can do so much more with sight than sound. Like play golf and drive. I couldnt survive if I couldnt do either of those.

:werd: My favorite thing to do is work on cars and drive them. If I couldn't do either of those, i'd go insane.

I would feel a little safer being blind than deaf I think, well maybe.
You can only see in front of you, but you can hear everywhere. However, if someone was like hasseling my girlfriend, it'd be harder to protect her. To say the least, I would get over losing my sight alright I think. I'd say there was something in my eye a lot though, and make numerous other Blind jokes.
