Hrmm..that looks kinda fake. Porcupines dont have all THAT many quills to begin with, but thats not the part that bothered me..its the coverage on that dogs face. On the right side of the picture there is like an impossible density of quills..which would suggest that is the side that he went at the thing with..but the picture shows huge coverage around his entire face. I've seen many dogs that got in scuffles with those things..and never, ever, seen something like that.
Of course..this IS the internet after all...90% bullshit and 10% just straight lies.
Another thing..all those quills seem to be like 100% white...which is kinda odd to me, many of them that I have seen are white/brown/black...mix of all the colors..but rarely just pure stark white like that. Maybe I've just seen some freakish Montana porcupines..and have no idea what I'm talking about. :)

Looks like just toothpicks with cut off ends to me. :D
Ouch. I grew up in northern Minnesota, and this type of thing was a 'regular occurence'. Poor dogs.
I've never seen a dog with that many quills, but I guess it'd be possible. Perhaps it tangled with more than one porcupine?

-BedlamYou have good points but I know this guy who owns this dog, he lives here in TX. It is a real pic and he had to lay the dog down after that pic.

the orignal thread (http://www.dfwstangs.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=142769) doesn't give any info as to the situation.

I think it's real;I've seen something similar that happened to my friend's dog. The vet had to spend 3 hours removing all the quills but he was ok after about a week.
Lay it down as in "put it down"?

Yeah..if the owner really had to "lay the dog down" after something like that..they deserve to have their ass kicked for owning a dog in the first place. Definately need some time with a vet, but certainly nothing a dog wouldnt heal up from quickly.
Often..people look at something like that and say.."STUPID DOG!" I say "stupid fucking owner."
