tobi,
put my timing belt on tonight. Head to move the cams around a little bit thus throwing off the marks. Heres a pic to show you what i mean, this is with the crank near TDC

and this is for those of you with bad eyes....

anyway as you can see, they dont match up. this isnt normal is it? When the crank is at TDC should those two marks be perfectly straight on with each other?

That looks off... The "up" arrows should both be directly up. There's also a hole in each cam that should line up with the hole in the cam holder. I usually stick a small but long screw or something in there to hold them in place.

Once you get the belt on, manually turn the crank a few revolutions and make sure everything's still lined up. In my experience, getting them lined up right has always been a little tedious.

so you dont think i should stick some AEM cam gears on there and just degree them back to normal?

Are you sure your crank is right on TDC? It could be a few degrees off. You have a degree wheel?

no i dont... i was thinking of gettin a dial indicator or something... just eyeballing it, thought, it looks right on.

Make sure the arrow on the crank pulley is pointed to the mark on the block.
Use a couple of screwdrivers or punches to hold the cam gears at TDC while installing the belt
Get a better digital camera.

Was the head shaved at all? Is the T-belt the correct one?

Found a problem, I think your crank pulley moved on you, this pic shows the actual timing mark. It shows that they are both turned counter clockwise.

i took those pics on the lowest quality setting. stupid me.
anyway, tobi, the manual im using says to position "up" arrows on the cam gears up, and set those two timing marks together. But thats impossible. With the arrow marks up the other marks wont line up. So, which marks do i go by? the ones you circled?

and i dont believe the head has been shaved. and the timing belt is the correct one, yes.

The arrows for the UP are just to tell you which end of the cam goes up. The horizontal marks are to get the final adjustment correct. you will notice that the marks are on both sides of the gear and if they are setup correctly they will line up with the flat surface of the head.
