Well my friend's car was stolen last Thursday, and since then he's decided that maybe we should opt to repair it ourselves. My question is can you repair the steering column shit that they broke. I think I read that you fixed Bedlam's thing but I'm not sure. Oh and also, if you can fix it do we need to tow it to you, or can you make an outcall. Or, I don't know if this will work, but since they stole his rims, could we just tow it to his house for now, get some wheels and then drive it to you to fix it? I don't know if it starts or drives or anything right now since the insurance hasn't let us see the car yet for some reason. But anyways, what's the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

what did they brake? if its the key ...thats easy to repalce... but if they had broken the window wiper switch then you need to replace the whole consol...

My civic was pretty fucked up..and they ended up replacing a LOT of the parts. However, Tobi has done about a million "theft recoveries" I'm sure he could fix just about anything they would have done to it for you.

Will it be covered by the insurance company? The easiest way to handle it is to have it towed here and I can work with the ins. company to get it fixed. Provided it is covered of course.

Yeah it's covered. We wanted to try and do something where he doesn't lose too much money. His deductable is like a grand and he wants to try and get some of that back. Is there any way to do it like that? I think he still has full coverage on it. He was in the process of selling it, parked it in a church lot and then when he went to pull it in at night it was gone. We haven't seen it yet, but the insurance company said the wiper was broken as well too. I think also the wheels and tail lights were taken.

Well once I do an estimate on the work I cannot change my price, that would be considered fraud. You can however opt not to do all the work and do some of it yourself which will save you some cash. But I think you have to prove to the insurance company that you did all the work before they will cover the car again for the damage that was done.

Ok so hmm, what if we had you do all the work, which right now just sounds like replacing the tail lights, wheels, and fixing the steering column, and what you charged was cheaper than what the claim adjustor gave us, would we get the difference?

I have state farm and whenever I need any estimates done they send one of their own adjusters and do there own estimates. I don't see why all insurance companies don't do this.

Did they already estimate the damage and cut the check?

They already estimated the damage but haven't cut the check yet. I think he said they cut the check after repairs are made and the adjustor reinspects the car afterwards and makes sure everything is ok.

That doesnt sound right to me but whatever. If you want to fix whatever you want on your own and bring it to me to fix the rest you can do that.

How much would you charge for the column?

I will have to look at it and see what it needs.

Ok so we went and got his car from the yard last Thursday. We've got the tail lights covered, and put some blackwalls out. The final step will be to fix the column. It needs the wiper handle, steering wheel cover, and the ignition part (where you stick the key through, cylinder I think it's called?). Can you give me a ballpark price for this, or would you need to see it? I might be able to get pictures this weekend. But if we get some sort of price range I can probably have him bring it to you. I take it this isn't a DIY eh? Thanks Tobi!

I dont reccomend you DIY on the column, theives usually do a number on them. I will need to see it to give a ballpark, sounds like they really messed it up.

I'll try to get some pics up this weekend. Anything in particular you need me to snap? Oh yeah the insurance did cut the check when we went to get the car fro the yard. They had the whole thing just sitting on rotors, which is exactly how they left my cousin's SI. Fuckers.

I will take a look at the pictures but what will probably happen is Ill have to come over and look at it to make sure some things are not bent or broken. Pics usually cant tell the whole story.
