hey Tobi my hatch is blowing smoke or steam out of the breather. Think my rings are shot?

Same thing with mine. One thing you will notice is that when you open up the oil cap right after you turn it off, smoke comes out. To me, in a way, it makes sense. I mean the valve cover is always hot after running, and the oil is most likely just hot from running. Since the valves are in there and in the oil, the exhaust valve most likely gets hot along w/ the head, and maybe it heats up the oil in the valve cover. Just a thought.

Damn my little hatch has 217,000 miles and doesn't blow oil out of the breather. About a quart a week does seem to dissapear somewhere though and I can't figure out where it goes to. It doesn't burn it out the exhaust, has no leaks, and doesn't blow it out the breather. I'm stumped. Oh well it's gettin a new motor anyways.

Well yes the oil does get hot and it will smoke a little inside the valve cover as you mentioned but it won't blow out of the breather as in like what pang is saying.

it's called oil vapor... very fine misty particles of hot oil
