I've been doing some searching lately on the SAFC2 and VAFC2, but haven't found any real good info on them.
From what I've gathered it will be a lot like the originals, but easier to use. The key feature that caught my eye was that it had a knock sensor monitor (for the factory knock sensor). But I haven't been able to find any info on how it displays it. For example, if it is by # of knocks, or intensity, or....
Even the Apexi website doesn't have any info on the new models.

its number of knocks in like the last 1-2 seconds... It displays it right with RPM in the monitor screen, and it also has a peak hold...

what happens if you weren't looking during that 1-2 seconds? can you explain the peak hold?
Jason, if you can make it to wings tomorrow, I'll bring all the books I got with mine and I'll let you look through them at the table. :)

Thanks Stu, but unfortunately i'm suppose to work, but i'm gonna skip work so i can go to my Formula SAE meeting and then study for my exam on thursday.
Still can't decide what to do. AEM EMS, Hondata, SAFC2, keep my SMC+...
I thought that Hondata would be really expensive, but now that I think about it. Since I'm getting the SAFC2, MSD6 BTM, and the ENS, that would cost me about the same as Hondata S200B (B for boost option). The only difference is the price of tuning, and being able to run more boost with Hondata. HRmmmm. :( Oh well right?

VAFC2 also has two settings. So you can set one for nitrous/track and the other for stock.
You can also set RPM ranges at 200RPM intervals instead of 500.
ANd some other things.
Jason, each of the monitoring displays has an option that you can turn on or off that shows the highest reading that it has recieved. So, what you could do is set it to display rpm and knock, then start the recorder, then it records for a whole minute. Then when you are done doing whatever, you can pull over and see what the highest knock reading was and the highest rpm was. Then you can replay the recorded part and see exactly where each occured.
Also, the knock is displayed as a number. I think it's the sound level or voltage level or something. When the car is just idleing, it's at like 170 something and moves up and down slightly. When you gas it, it goes up to like 186-190 something. There are four places though, so Tobi suggested that a knock would be around 4 Volts so maybe 4,000 some on that little counter.
You can also set the knock sensor to record how many knocks occured. I don't know what level it detects knocks at though.

Stu: that was exactly what i was looking for. I really appreciate the info. Where did you get your SAFC2 from? how much did you pay for it?
I really think I might get one now. I'll have to get a hold of you some time and check it out in person. I was at papa johns yesterday, but you weren't working (BW3's)
I got it off of e-bay for $280. After shipping and stuff, it was $300 even, which is a really good price for a brand new one. The instructions are a little crappy since they go straight from Japanese to English, but I'm sure you can figure it out. Also, I never went to BW3's I was hanging out with Tobi eating Taco Bell. I work Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday though if you ever want to stop by. I probably won't be busy tonight until like 5:00 and I get there at three, so feel free to stop by.

Hey Jason, if you decide to get a SAFC2 then you should PM WhiteWorx. I installed one on his car a little while ago. he decided that he would rather use Harvey's tuning straight to the ECU. He had me take it out this last weekend. It is basically brand new. I bet he would let it go for $200 or so.
