I was wondering how much you'd charge to completely remove my A/C unit all together, and the power steering stuff if possible as well. Oh and the cruise control stuff too. None of it's functional at the moment so I'm debating whether to just remove it all together, or maybe get the proper brackets for the A/C and power steering to work. I can live without cruise control though. Thanks Tobi.

Thats a couple hours of labor to do the stuff under the hood, if you want me to take out the stuff behind the dash for the AC its another hour for that. SO about $135 to strip it all out and make it look like a DX. :D

What's all included, like what would you be taking out? Maybe this is something I can do myself. Or maybe something I can help you out with. The power steering crap can be completely removed? I talked to a mechanic and he said it wasn't possible. Thanks Tobi.

You remove the pump, brackets, lines and leave in the rack. If you want to spend some more money you can go buy a manual steering rack even. My Si doesnt have any of this stuff in it either. The ac takes a little more because you have to recover the refrigerant first. Then you need to unbolt everything and replace part of the ductwork in the dash.

Jai, ALL my power steering stuff is gone, even the rack. It took us like 7 hours to do it with a floor jack and some ramps. The 7 hours inclueds a couple of smoke breaks (not me) and a trip to the dump to get the correct rack.

P.S. We were first timers and it wasn't with Tobi.

Ok...sounds like stuff I should definitely take to Tobi to do, since doesn't sound like I can do it myself lol.

You can, it just sucks laying on a not-at-all smooth concrete floor, covered in power steering fluid. But yes, Tobi would get it done faster with his resources.

Power steering fluid is the nastiest shit I've ever smelled.

stu, how does the manual rack feel compared to a power rack that's disabled (ie just the belt or something removed)? I drove around with my PS belt off once and it was a pain in my ass. I was a little worn out from staying up until 9am doing an engine swap, but I still think it was more trouble to drive than it's worth. I'm thinking that maybe it'd be easier if the lines were disconnected from the pump to relieve any pressure...

The problem with a power rack in the car and just removing the belt is that you are pushing the fluid through teh system every time you steer. I still have my power rack in my civic but I have flushed all the fluid out so I am pushing air. It works much better but is still heavier than a manual rack.

I get my truck and a long piece of vacuum line and attach it to the manifold on the truck and then to the A/C unit on the car and rev the truck up a little and crack open the valve on the car. While the truck is revved up it'll suck everything out of the a/c system and burn it inside the motor and then out the exhaust (of course). Totally legal. I asked the EPA doods down here in Texass.

Also works if your recharging it.

You know what kind of toxic gas that produces? Phosgene, deadlier than chlorine gas or nerve gas. Actually part of the composition of nerve gas.

Hmm, no wonder that old lady next door died. Ooops.

Hmm I'm not sure if all my fluid is pushed out or not. I'd like to have it along with A/C but I'm just not quite sure about what parts to buy to make everything work, well minus cruise control though.

Not sure, have to wait to see what the race schedule looks like. I think Im gonna skip all the IDRC events next year except here. They sucked and were not worth the drive. So it looks like the closest Ill be is Houston maybe.

Houston is the same distance as SA is from me.

The IDRC has one collective head....and it's up an ass somewhere. That was the worst event I've ever been to. Total waste of time & money....

but I'm not bitter.

Hey Jai,

I removed my A/C compressor and P/S pump in under an hour and a half... I have yet to remove the lines (the P/S one looks to be a little pain). My refrigirant was all gone (there was a little warm air coming out of the lines).

P/S I just left the rack in, but I left the lines connected for about a week so all the fluid could drain into the res. Just make sure you keep on emptying the reservoir.

If you do it yourself, you can send me a PM if you have any questions. :)

Yeah removing the compressor and and pump won't be much trouble, but I mean I don't really know what to do with the lines, what to drain and all he minor details. I haven't driven my car for like 2 weeks so I'm not in any hurry to do this anymore. Probably will in the summer.
