know several of you have your own forums that you are trying to get off the ground. I'm considering starting a site that would allow you to have your own free message forum. It would be a sub forum of the main site just like we have setup at sportcompactracing.com. You would be able to have your own domain name pointed to the forum (like club18t.com for example). The other great thing is that you would already have a good sized member base as soon as you got started. Would anyone be interested in this?

me. I of course would want to be admin for my own site, and already have a domain name (just need to adjust the dns servers). but at the same time, I'm not sure I want to be associated with a bunch of car freaks :)

search suggestion: when I do a search, it only goes back like 2 months. When I go to the sitemap, I can clearly see topics going back into last year. What gives with this?

You would be an admin of your specific site. It would actually be a completely new website that I start not associated with the current ones I run.

It might be a search option you are selecting. You can set how far back a search goes in the settings.

THis is also open to anyone wanting a forum for pretty much any topic you can think of.

Did you already register that domain name? If so go ahead and point the nameservers to

ns1.rackshack.net and
ns2.rackshack.net

I can then add you to the dns entry when the site goes live so you don't have to wait 24 hours.

I got a few ideas for forums that I know I would spend a lot of time at... just not sure if many other people would be interested.

it's from back in the day when we had balls-and-shaft racing by the way, it wasn't a porn site.

well this is your chance to see if they can take off. Once I have the site ready just submit your site idea's and we can get them going. I'll need everyones help getting initial traffic to all of the sites, but once things get going it should be an easy way to start a community.

what kind of limits would you have?
like you know with a lot of other free forum places you get a lot of pop up ads and ads on the forum itself unless you pay a certain amount. some have bandwidth limits/db size limits etc. will your new site have any of these?
i don't really need a forum, but thought maybe having some more info might help others or help us spread the word in more detail :)

I'll set reasonable limits on attachment sizes, etc, but no hard bandwidth limits or anything like that for now. There will never be any popups, just a simple banner ad on the top of each page. There will be options for custom layouts, logo placement, etc which will come at a small one time fee, but for the most part they are going to be pretty limitless within reason.

hrmm...this sounds like a good idea

how much exactly is the one time fee?

I haven't decided yet, but for custom colors, logo, etc probably around 20.00. That seems reasonable considering the time to set things up.

Brian, what php program are you using to rotate the banner ads at the top of the forums.

Scott: phpadsnew, great program and easy to use

Everyone else go ahead and start e-mailing me your forums that you would like to start. I have the bare bones of the site together and would like to get a couple forums up and running prior to launch. What I need is the name of your forum and the sub forums you would like to have along with it. Send those to webmaster@sportcompactracing.com for now.

I have begun the launch of FreeWebForums.com . THis website will allow you to start and administer your very own message forum. You will be given a sub forum with unlimited categories defined by yourself. You will also be in chage of moderating your own section. As the community grows traffic to your section of the forum grows as well making it very easy for you to establish any type of community you wish.

In the near future we will also introduce branding options so you can change the look of your forum including your very own custom logo. This will come with very low one time charge.

Right now you also have the ability to have a domain name pointed to your forum as well giving your community members an easy and direct way to get to your message forums. Please contact me if you have further questions about this option.

In order to kick this off I am asking that people interested in starting a community contact me right away. The information I will need from you includes:

1) Your Administrative user name (name you registered o nthe forums with

2) Your Desired community name

3) Your community forums list (which forums you would like in your community)

4) Contact information for yourself

5) Description of your community (brief)

The signup form are being fisished up as we speak, so if you would like to get started right away you can e-mail me the above info to webmaster@sportcompactracing.com and view the forums themselves at http://www.freewebforums.com/forums
