i am having my enginne rebuilt with a 2.2 stroker with new racing head with over sized high compression CP piston with Pauter Rods and new oil rings and everything internal besides the cams which i will upgrade in due time ...but my engine can withhold over 600 horsepower now .....should i go with the conventional Big 16g turbo for my dsm which adds up to 300 or 350 depending on which one i get....or i can get the 20 g turbo and add 400 horsepower or go one above that that adds 450 for $25 dollar more.......but i dont know much bout turbo's so i have some questions.....do you need a special type of header for turbo's?? and does the intercooler go into the turbo?? Any body with a turbo kit installed how much did it cost you to have innstalled and or how much was the kit with intercooler blow off valve with pipes...... i have never installed a turbo knowing that my dsm didnt come with an intercooler i have no idea so with your help i can get an idea what i should do ........i know what to get but dont know what to do ....so reply

If you want to make more than 400HP, then definately check out Forced Proformance. They've got a very nice line of turbos that all bolt up to the stock manifold. You'll definately want to ditch that stock intercooler.. The supra side mount is a good upgrade, but I'd suggest a front mount for anything more than 350hp.

why are you using high compression pistons with boost?
20g is a nice turbo. If your motor is built to make 600 hp, by all means find yourself a turbo which can flow enough air to work the motor a bit.
Who build the longblock? What do you consider "high compression" w/regard to pistons?

what kind of car is it? you asked for a kit so i have to assume its a NT. if not, there are no "kits" for turbo dsms

Why a 2.2 litre?
What compression?
When it comes to cams, please use HKS. You will be happy.
Big16G with a built shortie, HELL NO man! Go bigger. If you got the dough I'd go with a FP 3052. GT ball bearing chra, custom SS turbine housing which is super light and is bolt in.
Just use the 2G or EVOIII exh mani. They've gone very fast so far.
No, the turbo's outlet air goes thru the IC. The IC cools the air down before it gets to the engine.
I do all my own work, so I'm no help with the kits and install questions. But maybe one of the more reputable local dsm'rs would help you out or charge you a low fee.
If your dsm doesn't already have an IC, the I'm wondering why you are attempting to bite off more than you can chew at once here. I'm not flaming, but >i have never installed a turbo knowing that my dsm didnt come with an intercooler i have no idea so with your help i can get an idea what i should do< is a VERY big step from having Pauter rods...

I'd reccomend reading Maximum Boost by Corky Bell if you are new to the turbo scene. Very informative and it'll help you figure out a lot of stuff...

If you have an engine that will hold up to some serious power, then get a turbo that will make some serious horsepower. Take advantage of the shortblock's strength. I too am building a 2.3 liter stroker project with 9.0:1 Ross pistons. I am currently running a Slowboy Racing (www.slowboyracing.com) 60-1 turbo with an internal gate and 7 cm^ turbine housing. This bolted up relatively easy after I had already set it up for a 20g install. If you install a 16g right now, you will soon be looking for more power. Believe me. I went from the 14b to a small 16g, to a 20g, then finally to a Garrett 60-1 hybrid. For ANY turbo upgrade though, you need to get the right supporting mods in place though BEFORE the turbo is installed. Don't want to blow that nice new engine...

this is definetly a good source of information. i would recommend it to anyone considering turbo.

I would reccomend a Mitsubishi spec turbo built by Precision.
You can get a SC34 which will spool like a 18G yet flow enough for 550hp.
